Danville town officials are set to recognize the new playground and picnic areas at Osage Station Park with a ribbon-cutting and grand-reopening event early next month.

The play area at the public park on Brookside Drive was closed off toward the beginning of the year, with crews removing the existing structures in the playground and picnic areas and replacing them with new, high-quality amenities, town officials said.

“This has been a project years in the making, with the town and community working together on the design and implementation of this renovation,” Henry Perezalonso, town recreation services manager, said in a statement. “I am happy to be taking down the fence and making this great play area available again.”

The project cost $2.2 million, funded from the town’s park facilities and park dedication impact fee budgets, according to Geoff Gillette, town public information coordinator.

The new playground, with an “Old West” theme, features play areas for different age groups and new safety surfacing throughout the area, town officials said.

Parents will be able to watch their children while sitting on decorative planter benches or enjoying a lunch at one of the nearby picnic tables, and the decorative rose boxes in the area were upgraded and made more accessible, they added.

The ribbon-cutting and grand-reopening ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Osage Station Park, located at 816 Brookside Drive near Charlotte Wood Middle School. Mayor Karen Stepper will offer remarks during the event.
