I'm including a link to last week's Monday blog on CA Spay Plates. It didn't get the visibility I was hoping for, so I hope readers will go back and read it now. Those of you who complain about wasteful government spending should certainly want to reduce it, and this is a far easier way to do it than waiting for politicians to agree on anything ' more on that to come too.
This coming Sunday, October 2, 2011, I will be at the Safe-Cat Foundation booth at the Blessing of the Animals from noon to 3 pm at Peace Lutheran Church near Blackhawk. This is a beautiful event, and lots of fun if you love animals. I attended two years ago and there were all kinds of rescue groups, Bassett hounds, other cats and dogs, small animals, and even a horse.
I found several paintings online of Saint Clare with her rescued cats. Saint Clare was a prot'g' of Saint Francis, in whose honor the animal blessings are held. I'm not Catholic or Lutheran, but I believe in being good to animals, and both Saint Clare and Saint Francis are great role models for that.
I used a graphic of a painting of Saint Clare with her cat on her lap and created "Be a Saint, Adopt a Cat" buttons. We shall be offering buttons at the Church for a small donation (or a big one) to Safe-Cat Foundation.
Safe-Cat Foundation recently updated our website, and you can find out more about our mission, rescues, adoptable cats and efforts to Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) feral cats on the Holy Names University campus in Oakland. I modified the buttons to say, "Be a Saint, Fix a Cat" for the nuns.
As a community half way between the Cities named for Saint Francis (San Francisco) and Saint Clare (Santa Clara) it's so appropriate to honor these truly saintly people at the Blessing of the Animals this Sunday. Stop by the Safe-Cat booth and pick up a button or adopt a cat or both!
