DMV and other auto related tales (Part II)

Uploaded: Oct 23, 2014

On Wednesday morning I was ready to leave for the DMV again. When I opened the door to the Focus the car honked at me. The message window said I needed an oil change and my tires were flat. So I drove back to Rays, dropped it off, and got a ride back home.

I drove my Maverick down to the DMV, retook the quiz, and PASSED! The nice lady at Window 11 gave me two thumbs up. See there are good people working for the DMV! Then I drove back to Rays to see how my Focus was doing.

Ray changed the oil but said there's an oil leak and I should take it to the dealer to be repaired under the warrantee. I took the Focus back and left the Maverick there because it kept stalling when I backed up. When I got home I called Livermore Ford and made a reservation to bring my Focus in for service at 8:30 am on Monday, October 20th.

My new Driver's License arrived in the mail on October 14th, less than a week after passing the quiz. I was surprised it came so quickly. At least I have my Driver's license. Now I needed to make sure I have a drivable vehicle.

On October 20th I called Livermore Ford to say I preferred dropping my car off instead of getting there at 8:30 am for an appointment. I needed to bring it in for a recall on the Automatic Transmission that caused the shift lever to shudder at low speeds. So I thought I could have both repairs done at the same time. The woman taking the call said that would be better for them too.

So I printed out maps and wrote down directions on how to get there. I left for Livermore at 9:30 am and made it to the Airway Blvd. exit around 10. I missed the turn for Kitty Hawk Road and drove around Livermore for 20 minutes before finding my way back to Livermore Ford.

I dropped the Focus off and the van driver from Livermore Ford took me and another customer from San Ramon back home. The van driver exited the freeway at Alcosta. He wanted to drive up San Ramon Valley Blvd. to Pine Valley, but I told him to take Alcosta because Mangos is closer to Alcosta.

When we got to the stop light at Davona Drive, I told him to turn left there. That's the way I would probably go, but he kept grumbling that I was trying to get him a ticket. The driver was very careful to keep under 25 MPH so he would not get a ticket, which made taking Davona seem much longer than I remembered. I should have let him take SRVB.

On October 21st I drove the Maverick to Walgreens for Senior Day, which was changed from the first Tuesday of the month to the third Tuesday. Someone named Bob left a note on the windshield asking if I wanted to sell the car "as is." What did he mean by "as is?" I had it painted last year and its running like new. This is the second time someone left a note on my Maverick asking to buy it. I'm not ready to sell it yet, if ever.
