This Wednesday morning Livermore Ford called that my Focus was ready. There wasn't an oil leak, it was coming from the transmission and was part of the recall for shift shudder. So the van driver picked me up. He was a younger guy and this time I did not give him any directions.
I picked up my car and gave my "San Ramon Observer" card to the van driver, Mike the Service guy, and the other passenger in the van, so they could read my blog and add their own comments to it.
The driver's seat felt like it had been adjusted, so I pulled into a Carl's Jr. lot to reset it to suit me. I got back on the 580 West with the plan to exit at Dougherty Road, but I got into the exit lane too soon and wound up getting off at Tassajara Blvd. That wouldn't be a problem but "Wrong Way Roz" turned the wrong way and headed into Pleasanton.
I made a U-turn on Old Santa Rita Road and Pickens Lane and drove back up to Dublin Blvd. At last I knew where I was. I continued on Dublin Blvd. to Dougherty Road and this time headed in the right direction to San Ramon.
I moved into the left lane to be in the right place to turn on Old Ranch Road, but I probably moved over too soon. I was doing 40 mph, but a guy behind me wanted to go faster. I sped up to 45, which is within the speed limit for Dougherty Road. The guy behind me cut into the right hand lane to pass me and cut back in ahead of me. Then he sped up the hill into Dougherty Valley. He was driving a dark gray pickup truck.
I phoned the San Ramon Police today to report this incident. The officer transferred me to Contra Costa Sheriff's dispatch, but since I couldn't identify the truck or driver, and I didn't know if he drove this route regularly at the same time of day, the Dispatcher suggested calling back if it happens again and she will dispatch an officer out on patrol.
Once I reached Old Ranch Road I knew where I was and how to get home. I like being home. I like being in my little office writing these blogs. When I was much younger I used to like driving, but I don't anymore. I still need a car but I don't like going outside of my comfort zone.
