Cruz-Fiorina 2016

Uploaded: Apr 28, 2016
I received an email from Ted Cruz that Carly Fiorina has been added to his ticket as his Vice Presidential running mate if he is the Republican nominee for President. Frankly I'm not too impressed with Cruz, but these days I'm an "Anyone but Trump" person. However I do think very highly of Fiorina, so I consider this a smart move on the part of Cruz.

If I wasn't a Fiorina Fan before Cruz's email, which I was and will explain below, Cruz's email listed a bunch of her accomplishments to persuade me:

"Carly is a Leader: a leader who understands that power never has and never will come from the government – it comes from the people. A leader who knows the principles of the Declaration and the Constitution because she has lived them – a life dedicated to the dignity of work, of our right to pursue our wildest aspirations – and to help others do the same.

Carly is a Fighter: a fighter who terrifies Hillary, and she will do the same to our enemies. Carly will fight for the American people with an unbreakable purpose of protecting every one of their rights and ensuring we hand our children and grandchildren a better America than the one before us today.

Carly has a record of Accomplishment: a record of both personal and professional accomplishment, Carly was the first woman to lead a Fortune 50 business, and she did it during the worst technology recession in 25 years. Carly saved 80,000 jobs and grew the company to 160,000 jobs."

The last accomplishment refers to her takeover of Hewlett Packard. Carly has been accused of destroying HP not saving it, but I was working on contract for HP right after she was replaced, and YES she did save it.

She didn't get credit for rescuing the venerable computer company while she was CEO, but as often happens the changes she made, which appeared to be failures at the time, directly resulted in the revival of good old HP.

When Carly took over HP was hemorrhaging money. She laid off a lot of employees, especially a cadre of highly paid upper management which saved the company a lot of money but made her a lot of enemies.

I worked there on "contract," which meant I was hired for a short term and received no employee benefits. While being a contract employee isn't very secure or lucrative, it is smart management.

HP's purchase of Compaq was also criticized at the time, but this opened up new channels of distribution and acquired Compaq's portable computer technology. HP is one of the leaders in laptop computers now.

The man who took over after Carly left was later fired for sexual harassment. In hindsight firing Carly appears to have been a mistake. I'm sure I'll get some anti-Carly and anti-Cruz comments, but this changes my position in the upcoming California Republican Primary, and hopefully we can forget about a "President Trump."

Democracy.
What is it worth to you?

Cruz's decision of running mate changes nothing. Trump has the nomination locked beyond a 'miracle' (aliens abduct him?).

And Trump has little chance against Clinton.

bring on 'Madame President'.

Really wishing there were other choices.

Cruz must win Indiana to prevent Trump from winning outright. Then anything goes at the convention.

I think the Cruz/Fiorina ticket is pretty darned strong. She brings much needed global business experience that isn't based in political establishment muck. Although I'm voting for Cruz, I still distrust the republican establishment.

Very good choice for Cruz.

Does anyone else wonder if there's a secret pact between Donald and Hillary to throw the election so she could win? We know they are (were?) friends. She attended several of his weddings.

More likely is Trump is really a planted Democrat inserted to wreck the GOP.

And what a fine job he's doing. GIVING the election away. All the general election match ups have Clinton winning. Many by double digits.

Really really needs to be more than 2 parties (the current others are not relevant).

Carly fell off the stage and Cruz fell out of the race. It seems to be getting closer to Hillary vs. Trump. Let's see, Mickey Mouse anyone?
