New jazz series coming to Village Theatre

Kick-off concert set for Friday in downtown Danville

Danville's Village Theatre is set to host some of the finest jazz entertainment in the area starting this week when a new bimonthly jazz series launches at the historic downtown venue.

Curated by jazz vocalist Eve Marie Shahoian, "The Jazz Room" series will kick off Friday night with a concert featuring prominent Bay Area musicians as well as some of Danville's local jazz students.

The performers on the bill for Friday include Shahoian, The Kelly Park Big Band, Mads Tolling, Special Blend Vocal Ensemble, Frank Martin, Mike Williams, the Athenian Advanced Jazz Band (led by Stephen Herrick) and the San Ramon Valley High School Jazz Vocal Ensemble (led by Ken Abrams).

Doors open at 7 p.m. Friday and the concert begins an hour later at 8 p.m., inside the Village Theatre and Art Gallery at 233 Front St. in Danville.

Presale tickets for "The Jazz Room" are $25 for adults and $20 for students. Tickets at the door are $30 for adults and $25 for students. Presale tickets can be purchased by calling 314-3400 or by visiting the theater's website
