Tassajara Hills students headed to Destination Imagination global finals

Group raising funds to help offset trip expenses

Six students from Danville's Tassajara Hills Elementary School are poised to travel to Tennessee this week to represent their school in the global finals of the Destination Imagination innovation competition.

Fourth-graders Max McCay, Parker Pierce, Alex Rhee and Joey Sabo and fifth-graders Kyra McCool and Emma Walsh qualified earlier this spring by placing first at the regional competition and second at the state level.

They are set to take part in the international finals from May 24-27 at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

They will compete against other teams in the Scientific Challenge: Top Secret, one of seven, open-ended challenges that require young people to apply science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), in addition to improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication, innovation and teamwork.

The Tassajara Hills team has been raising funds to help offset the $10,000 in expected expenses associated with their trip. To contribute, visit the team's GoFundMe page or donate through the school's fundraising webpage.
