A Danville man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after authorities allege he hit two bicyclists with his car on Blackhawk Road on Wednesday night.
The cyclists, both men from the Sacramento area, were transported to area hospitals with major injuries following the collisions, according to Officer Derek Reed of the California Highway Patrol's Dublin-area office.
The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Blackhawk Road east of Magee Ranch Road when a red Volkswagen GTI heading eastbound struck two bicyclists who were each riding on the right side of the road in the same direction, Reed said.
One cyclist was airlifted because of the severity of his injuries while the other, also with major injuries, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, according to Reed.
The Volkswagen's driver, a 30-year-old Danville man, was uninjured in the crash and subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, according to Reed. The officer declined to reveal the driver's name, citing office policy that precludes releasing names of people involved in crashes.
