Driver dies after crashing into utility pole near Monte Vista High

Stone Valley Road closed for PG&E repairs

One person died Tuesday morning after the Jeep he was driving struck a utility pole on Stone Valley Road in Danville, according to police.

The solo crash occurred at 10:35 a.m. on Stone Valley Road at Monte Sereno Drive, Danville Police Chief Allan Shields said. The driver was traveling east when he hit a pole in front of Monte Vista High School, sustaining serious injuries.

The driver was transported to Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, Shields said.

The driver's identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The crash resulted in the closure of Stone Valley Road. According to the Danville Police Department, the road may remain closed as late as midnight, as PG&E crews continue repair work on the utility pole.
