A school bus collided with a bicyclist Thursday morning at the intersection of El Cerro Boulevard and Diablo Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The bus was carrying 45 children, aged 10-12 years old, traveling northbound on Diablo Road around 7:50 a.m. when the crash occurred, according to CHP officer Brandon Correia.

As the bus reached the intersection of Diablo Road and El Cerro Boulevard, Correia said, the bus collided with a cyclist, who was also traveling northbound on Diablo Road in the same middle lane.

No children were injured or taken to the hospital, but the 51-year-old male cyclist was transported to San Ramon Regional Medical Center with minor complaints of leg pain, according to Correia.

The bus was a TRAFFIX bus carrying students to Los Cerros Middle School in Danville, according to the San Ramon Valley school district communications director Elizabeth Graswich.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, Correia said.

  1. I think cyclists should be banned from certain roads, one of them being DIABLO Rd. They cause too many car accidents and are risking their own lives too.

  2. @Gomez: No we don’t think we own the road. We try to ride as safely as we can in bike lanes with broken glass and all kinds of debris left by motorists.

Most traffic lights don’t change for cyclists.

    Please give us a break.

How many motorists are injured by cyclists and vice versa?

  3. Unfortunately, one entitled rider gives all of the cyclists a bad rap. These days all I see are pushy riders – riding side by side instead of single, running lights and stop signs, weaving in and out of traffic. I have years under my belt with these types of riders, but my 16-year-old and her newly licensed friends don’t. Please riders, consider this. No one comes out a winner if someone gets hurt.
