An Alamo man died Friday from injuries sustained in a skydiving accident near the Lodi Airport the day before, officials confirmed.

Brett Hawton, 54, was skydiving from a plane out of the Lodi Parachute Center in Acampo. The Sacramento Bee reported his chute tangled as he descended and he landed atop a horse trailer across the street from the Lodi Airport.

Hawton was hospitalized in critical condition immediately after the accident, the Sacramento Bee reported. The Alamo man died the next day, according to the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates skydiving and parachute operations, is currently investigating last week’s incident, said Ian Gregor, spokesman for the administration’s Pacific Division.

“Our investigation focuses on whether the parachute was properly packed by the appropriate person,” he said.

This fatal accident comes on the heels of another Lodi fatal accident in May, in which a solo skydiver was killed while using a wingsuit, according to Gregor.
