An apparent pipe bomb caused authorities to close access to a road near a fire station in unincorporated Danville late Tuesday morning before a regional bomb squad dismantled the device, according to officials.

At around 9:15 a.m. Tuesdasy, a local resident came into San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Station 36, located at 2100 Lusitano St., with some fireworks she wanted to dispose of, according to Lon Phares, deputy chief of operations. The woman had recently moved in, and found the box of fireworks left in her new home.

After examining the box, fire officials found what appeared to be a homemade pipe bomb, Phares said. As a precautionary measure, the police and authorities were notified, and the pipe bomb was dismantled by the Walnut Creek bomb squad.

The incident prompted the closure of Lusitano Street between Camino Tassajara and Cashmere Street — the portion of the street right in front of the fire station — for at least an hour, according to the Twitter page of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials wrote on Twitter at around 12:30 p.m.,”Walnut Creek Police bomb squad arrived and rendered the object safe. Lusitano Road (sic) is now open. No injuries.”

  1. Who put the bomb at the house? Have you found the terrorist? What was his race? These are very important things for us to know so we can protect our children. Hiding people’s race or identity for fear of being called racist is a joke. OUR safety, the law abiding citizens who are owed peace and protection, deserve to know who is living among us plotting to blow us up. Please disclose the information to us.

  2. Well, Seth, since the woman recently moved in and found the box of fireworks left their…logical thinking would be that it was left by the prior tenants. Therefore, as of the 2010 census, the terrorist has an 83.1% chance of being White, 10.5% chance of being Asian, 0.9% of being African American, 0.2% of being Native American, 0.2% chance of being Pacific Islander, and 1.2% from some other race. The odds are heavily stacked in favor of a White terrorist.
Or, more likely, a White kid who thought it would be cool to build a pipe bomb to impress his friends but never had the nerve or intent to light it off…and when the parents were moving they assumed all of the items in the box were fireworks and didn’t want to have issues with transporting fireworks over state lines so they left them for someone else to deal with.
    Next question?

  3. Well Patrick, maybe you should enlist to become a detective. With those kind of skills we might be safer around here! So a white kid did this huh? And his parents were tenants, not owners? Many assumptions you have here. Oh and you say the parents were too lazy to inspect a box and just left it behind… Hmmm, Ok that sounds pretty interesting. I think you should send out the dogs to sniff this white kid out!
Or better yet, I think you might consider a different career. I don’t think you would make it in the police squad.
