A youth orchestra in San Ramon will soon be holding auditions for musicians interested in performing with the group at Carnegie Hall in June.

Orchestra Gradus ad Parnassum just opened its third season with a performance at the Dublin High School Center for Performing Arts & Education this past weekend. The orchestra serves young musicians in the Tri-Valley, and is led by music director Imant Airea and artistic director Temirzhan Yerzhanov.

The orchestra will be touring at the famed Carnegie Hall in New York June 20-23, 2018, and currently has a few vacant positions. Auditions are open to young musicians ages 12-22, and will be held Dec. 3 at the San Ramon Music & Fine Art School, 12901 Alcosta Blvd., Suite No. 2.

All instruments are invited to audition, though there is a particularly urgent need for trumpet, French horn, flute, oboe, cello, double bass and percussion. For the audition, musicians will need to prepare one or two unaccompanied pieces of music containing slow and fast sections, any scale and arpeggio in different articulations, and expect sight-reading.

Interested musicians can apply to audition online; a $15 non-refundable application fee in cash or by check is required on the day of the audition.

Applications are also welcomed from players who want to join the orchestra for the remainder of the season, who can also audition on Dec. 3.

Weekly rehearsals for Orchestra Gradus ad Parnassum are held at San Ramon’s Church of the Valley, 19001 San Ramon Blvd.
