An Antioch man was charged by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office earlier this week after being arrested in February for allegedly shooting through the floor of a San Ramon apartment, with the bullet narrowly missing a baby, police said.

Early afternoon on Feb. 11, patrol officers responded to a report of a gunshot discharged from within an apartment complex at Promontory Terrace, just west of the intersection of Crow Canyon Road and Interstate 680, according to Lt. Cary Goldberg from the San Ramon Police Department.

The shot came from within a second floor apartment at the complex, Goldberg said, traveling through the floor to the apartment directly below. There were three people within the first floor apartment: a man, woman and their infant child.

No one was injured, though the gunshot struck near where the baby was located at the time, Goldberg said.

Officers arrested the man in the upstairs apartment on suspicion of violating state law that prohibits shooting into an inhabited dwelling, Goldberg said. The man was later identified as William Millard, a 25-year-old from Antioch.

A motive for the shooting is not known at this time, Goldberg said.

On Monday, Millard was charged by the county DA’s Office for one felony charge of being in possession of a short-barreled shotgun, and three misdemeanor charges for being in possession of methamphetamines, stolen property and burglary tools.

  1. Good news: Likely unintended discharge, (unless he was aiming for baby crying noises.
Bad news: Firearms have the power to impact more than their immediate area.
Good news: Based on other items found, someone was found out and stopped before having the chance to do anything even more idiotic, and no one was physically hurt, although the baby’s parents my have a hard time feeling secure at home for a while!
