Rotary Club of Alamo honors Educators and Students of the Year

Teachers, students from six SRVUSD schools receive awards

With the school year having come to a close, the Rotary Club of Alamo recognized the accomplishments of both students and teachers in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District at an awards ceremony on May 23.

Approximately 75 people attended the luncheon and award ceremony at the Round Hill Country Club in Alamo, where club members presented this year's awards to educators and teachers from six local schools: Alamo Elementary, Rancho Romero Elementary, Lucille Mauzy School, Stone Valley Middle School, Monte Vista High and San Ramon Valley High.

"The Educator of the Year Award recognizes the personal commitment that the recipient demonstrates on a day-by-day basis, despite all the challenges," Rotarians said in a statement. "Teachers select the Students of the Year based on academics, school activities and community service."

Recipients of the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award were: Amelia Caldwell, Stone Valley Middle; Beverly Davies, Monte Vista High; Marie Graham-Tyler, Lucille Mauzy School; Shiris Kamal, San Ramon Valley High; Shawna Meyer, Alamo Elementary; and Allie Raney, Rancho Romero Elementary.

Outstanding Students of the Year who were honored include: Jillian Caple, San Ramon Valley High; Liam Dolan, Alamo Elementary; Brennan Finder, Stone Valley Middle; Karalyn Sawchuk, Monte Vista High; Natalie Shepherd, Rancho Romero Elementary and Chrysta Tsaklanos, from Lucille Mauzy.

Each honored student and teacher received a certificate of commendation from Assemblywoman Catherine Baker, Contra Costa County Supervisor Candace Andersen and State Senator Steve Glazer.
