The town of Danville is searching for 15 sponsors to provide patronage to its newest public art project “Dogs of Danville, Unleashed!”

A five-month-long public art display, “Dogs of Danville” will feature 15 artistically painted statues of man’s best friend, strategically placed throughout downtown and accompanied by a walking tour and passport program for residents to explore the town.

Patrons are needed to fund the creation and placement of the dogs however, and the town is asking for patrons to donate $1,000 in order to pay an artists and their art supplies.

An open call to local artists will go out early in the year, with the best entries selected being placed in front of a sponsors business. Each dog will also be accompanied with a pedestal indicating the sponsor’s name, address and website.

In order to give residents the opportunity to fully appreciate the tour, and to help promote the projects patrons, the town of Danville will be issuing out colorful booklets to guide visitors on a walking tour of all 15 locations. Booklets will serve as an art passport for participants and special prizes will be distributed at a closing reception for participants who have visited each site.

Businesses and individual donors will also receive marketing promotions from the town for their efforts, including town newsletter articles, press releases, online advertisements and social media promotions.

“Dogs of Danville” will open May through September, statues will be auctioned off at a closing ceremony on Sept. 19 at the Village Theatre, with 100% of funds going towards the installation of a future public art project.

Completed sponsorship forms must be submitted with an accompanying check by Jan. 11. Application forms can be printed off on the town website and need to be addressed as follows: Village Theatre Art Gallery, Town of Danville, Attn: Dogs of Danville, 233 Front St., Danville CA 94526.

  1. Cool. Reminds me of Cows on Parade in Chicago many years ago. It was a very successful marketing campaign to promote the City. At night, they randomly moved life size statutes of beautifully painted cows throughout the city. It was cool see so many artistic and creative cow statutes popping up around town. I think they held a contest for Chicagoans to vote on their favorite Cow. It was quite a buzz for one summer.
