Danville’s Museum of the San Ramon Valley will be teaming up with the Diablo Pacific Short Line Railroad Club on Saturday for a free demonstration of its large-scale model railroad system.

The demonstration will complement the museum’s current exhibit “Totally Trains,” consisting of a series of operational model trains, such as the garden railways and G-scale running on low table-tops placed outside of the museum.

“Each module is individually constructed with unique themes or scenery, but the rails are designed to interlock to provide various configurations, depending on the space available at each venue,” museum spokesman John Keenan said. “They represent steam locomotives of the late 19th through the middle 20th century and diesel and electric locomotives of the ‘40s and ‘50s until the current era.”

Keenan added that museum organizers hope the demonstration, which will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will help foster the public’s interest in model trains as well as the museum’s offerings.

The museum is located in the restored Southern Pacific depot, 205 Railroad Ave. in Danville, hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sundays noon to 3 p.m.

Set to run through Aug. 18, “Totally Trains” is a popular exhibit the museum typically runs each summer and features a diverse collection of model trains running throughout the museum. Tickets can be purchased for “Totally Trains” in person, $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, students and children. Members can visit the exhibit for free.

  1. I recently took my granddaughter to Totally Trains.
She was memorized by the trains with their lights and sounds.
There were a number of interactive things for her to play with.
The sight of the trains brought back so many memories for me.
I highly recommend it to young and old.
