The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office has identified the driver killed in a solo-vehicle crash in the unincorporated area of Danville on Friday night as 22-year-old Danville resident Austin Nixon.
Nixon was found unresponsive in his vehicle at approximately 11:27 p.m. Friday after his car struck a tree along northbound Camino Tassajara, north of Blackhawk Drive, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tyler Hahn.
Nixon -- a Monte Vista High School alumnus -- was removed from the vehicle and transported by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he eventually died from his injuries, according to Hahn. The driver was the only occupant.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and CHP officers are still working to determine if alcohol and or drugs played a role.

Correction to site of the aforementioned accident. It should read: 'westbound Camino Tassajara, west of Blackhawk Drive.' The accident site is near the eastern gates leading into Blackhawk. A very tragic incident, and quite close to another fatal crash, also occurring in the same eastbound lane several years ago that took the life of a local man who had passengers in his vehicle at the time of the crash. Camino Tassajara requires more police patrols and use of radar as speeding and tailgating have become an all too common event between Tassajara Ranch Road, eastbound to Blackhawk Drive. Camino Tassajara should be renamed 'Tassajara Speedway'. Condolences to the young man's
family for their loss.
