The Danville Town Council is set to continue its review of possibly adding a new, multi-use skate park and could select a preferred location for additional study on Tuesday evening.

During the regular meeting, council members will discuss the results of a community survey polling residents on their desire for a skate park and the council will consider directing staff to conduct additional research on potential areas.

The top four potential skate park locations that will be presented to the council include:

* Diablo Vista Park, 1000 Tassajara Ranch Drive

* Oak Hill Park, 3005 Stone Valley Road

* Osage Station Park, 816 Brookside Drive

* Sycamore Valley Park, 2101 Holbrook Drive.

After conducting the online community survey that collected 1,071 responses, residents seem to overall support bringing a skate park to the town, with 54% of respondents saying they either support or strongly support a multi-sport skate park, and only 35% either oppose or strongly oppose — the remaining respondents expressed a neutral opinion.

According to a staff report by Danville’s recreation, arts and community services director Henry Perezalonso, the survey further revealed Diablo Vista Park as the preferred park location among residents.

Perezalonso added, that strangely enough while Sycamore Valley Park was identified as the town’s most viable option in its 2018 Skate Park Feasibility Study, this site registered the highest opposition among residents in the community survey, with 40% to 45% of respondents either opposed or strongly opposed.

The study originally listed Sycamore Valley Park as the preferred location due to it being the “furthest removed from existing homes across Camino Tassajara (approximately 400 feet) and would have the least impact on existing recreational amenities at the park.”

However, Perezalonso did note that Diablo Vista Park certainly has its own advantages as a potential site, not only would the potential location take advantage of an underutilized part of the park, but the location would not require removing or displacing existing recreational amenities.

The Danville Town Council is set to hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. in the Town Meeting Hall, 201 Front St., Danville.
