The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education is set to have a relatively routine meeting on Tuesday, when district officials meet to discuss a number of administrative matters relating to school operations.
Topics set to be discussed during the regular meeting include a series of reports on schools and student achievement data, the reduction of classified management positions and the appointment of new officials to several administrative positions.
In response to the announcement that the district’s deputy superintendent of educational services Toni Taylor will be retiring effective January 2020, the school board will begin the meeting with a discussion on appointing a new administrator to her position — a discussion that will be held during a closed session held prior to the start of the board’s regular meeting.
In addition to discussing a new assistant superintendent of educational services, the board will also consider appointing a new executive director of elementary education, director of instructional services, business manager and assistant director of facilities.
As a part of that discussion, district staff have recommended that current Dougherty Valley High School principal Dave Kravitz be appointed to a district-level position. If approved, the board will discuss appointing a replacement.
To close out staffing appointments, board members will also consider appointing a new assistant principal at an unspecified high school.
Then the board will hear a special report from a California High School student about the goings-on at the San Ramon campus, followed by a school administrator’s presentation on the activities at Neil Armstrong Elementary School.
District officials are also set to hear presentations on potential future public Safety Power Shutoffs from PG&E — several SRVUSD schools lost power during last month’s shutoff event.
To close out regular agenda items, the board will consider eliminating and/or reducing several classified management positions, which district officials say will reduce district expenditures by approximately $575,000 per year.
The SRVUSD board is set to hold its regular meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the district offices, 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville.
I wonder how these changes would affect on each school.
Since the district is trying to cut down expenditures on its management system, now could we revert that funds to give back every day recess time and lunch time on Wednesdays you the board members took away?
Please hire individuals who will with integrity and honor serve the the need of people .. the fundamental needs that the district have been putting off but prioritized their own agendas
Just a thought, but perhaps the first reduction in expenditures should be the obscene salary the Superintendent receives (one of if not the highest in the State despite being a ‘low risk’ District) and forward some of that toward more counselors and school psychologists; nurses; better teacher pay; more para-educators with decent salaries for their position and responsibilities; more supplies for our classrooms; etc. After all, shouldn’t the focus be on our students and their support systems NOT top heavy management positions and respective salaries? These administrators made the choice to go into public service and I believe their compensation packages should match that fact…not “golden parachute” plans that match or even exceed the corporate world…and these valuable perceived lower level positions and needs should not be dependent on parent funded foundation and educational site funds….IMO anyway…
The SRVUSD administration does not lead it only reacts to each new terrible thing that happens with our kids. The lack of leadership was very clear during the power outages. Why in the world with no power at schools was the school not closed.
