World Poetry Day is March 21 and San Ramon’s Poet Laureate, Jenyth Jo, is inviting aspiring and established local poets alike to recognize the day by submitting a virtual reading of a poem.

San Ramon residents can participate in a hometown celebration by recording a video reading of a positive poem on an international theme — with poems welcome to be read in English or other languages.

Video submissions will be reviewed for appropriateness for public posting then will be posted to the Poet Laureate’s section of the city of San Ramon website for World Poetry March 21.

Poems containing negative themes or content, profanity, vulgarity, or offensive material will not be accepted. The city is specifically looking for family-friendly themes that are generally positive and appropriate for the entire community.

Submission forms can be found on the city’s website and are due by March 1, with actual videos due by March 15. Application and video submissions are free to enter and open to all San Ramon residents.
