The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education is set to consider updating to its labor agreements with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and its California School Employees Association (CSEA) local chapters in the wake of negotiations with the district’s teachers union.
Members of both the SEIU Local 1021 and the CSEA Chapter 65, units II and III, are in line to receive financial increases greater than what was previously agreed upon between the groups and the board. This is a result of the “Me Too” provision in the board’s agreement with the San Ramon Valley Education Association, mandating that the salary increases go into effect across the board for labor groups.
In accordance with the agreement, SEIU Local 1021 members are now set to receive a 4.56% ongoing salary increase, with a 4.18% base salary increase and a 0.38% increase to go toward retirement contributions for a total 2018-19 financial impact of $678,443. Set to take effect retroactively to July 1, 2018, the new salary represents a 1.56% increase from the original agreement made in March.
The CSEA represents classified workers, with two separate units for different district employees: Unit II represents clerical, technical, child nutrition and other classified employees, while Unit III represents paraprofessionals.
Under the new provisions, CSEA Unit II employees will receive a 4.18% ongoing increase, with 4.05% applied to base salary and the remaining 0.13% going toward retirement benefits, and all Unit II employees will receive a 4.18% salary increase, for a total budget impact of $1,512,495. Both figures represent an additional 2.18% for CSEA members from previous negotiations.
The school board is scheduled to hold its regular meeting, Tuesday 7 p.m. at the district offices, 699 Old Orchard Drive, Danville.
In other business
* Trustees are set to recognize May as Asian Pacific Heritage Month and will listen to a special presentation in honor of the proclamation.
* A student representative from San Ramon Valley High school will be in attendance, to give a report on the comings and goings of their school.
* During the board’s closed session, which will be held prior to the start of its regular open meeting, trustees will review a series of potential employment changes for multiple elementary school principals at unspecified schools.
