The Village Theatre and Art Gallery in downtown Danville is presenting “Memory & Imagination,” a new exhibit opening next week and featuring artwork from the practicing artist residents of The Reutlinger Community (TRC), including colorful landscapes of places remembered as well as imaginative abstracts.

TRC is a senior care center in Danville that offers arts programs for its residents, such as “Discovering the Artist Within” — a program that helps seniors find their artistic potential through the exploration of different types of media.

Betty Rothaus directs the arts programs at TRC. She holds a bachelor’s degree in painting and a master’s degree in printmaking, in addition to a degree as a specialist in art education.

Rothaus has been interested in the arts since childhood and believes that art comes from an individual’s rich and varied life experiences and interests.

The opening reception for the exhibit taking place on Aug. 25 from 2-4 p.m. is free and open to the public, and offers complimentary refreshments. The exhibit will run through Oct. 12.

The Village Theatre and Art Gallery is open to visitors Wednesdays through Fridays from 12-5 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Mondays and Tuesdays by appointment only. The Art Gallery is closed on Sundays. Admission is free.
