Marguerite Magoffin

After a full life of 98 ½ years, Marguerite "Peggy" Magoffin passed away at her Pleasanton home on March 30, 2023. The matriarch of her family, she will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her dogs, her gardens, and her career that spanned more than six decades. After graduating from high school, she went to work for her father's insurance agency in December 1943. She remained loyal to the business for more than 63 years until retiring in 2007 at the age of 83. She met her first husband, Wally Brown, Sr., at an Oakland Oaks game in 1941 when he was a young pitcher. She described their relationship as "love at first sight" as he vowed to marry her just three days after they met. They had two children together – Wally Brown, Jr. and Candy – and were married for 31 years before divorcing in 1972. She considered herself lucky to enjoy a second love, Col. Mort Magoffin, a WWII hero and ace fighter pilot, after they met at Castlewood Country Club. They enjoyed 32 years of marriage until his death in 2007. Peggy dedicated much of her life to in the insurance business, where she worked alongside her son for more than 40 years. Her family and friends often joked that they wanted to be reincarnated as one of her dogs as she spoiled every dog she had over her lifetime. Always proud of her Italian roots, she was a gourmet cook, loved tending to her rose and vegetable gardens at her historical home on St. Mary's St. in downtown Pleasanton, and enjoyed playing golf and bridge at Castlewood. Eighteen months before her death, Peggy lost her daughter, Candy. She is survived by her son, Wally Brown Jr. of Pleasanton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter; and two step, great-grandchildren.
