YMCA: Abuse of a neighborhood

Original post made by Alamo community of neighborhoods, Alamo, on May 10, 2007

Your article picturing happy faces ready to impose a YMCA commercial facility deep into the Hemme neighborhood illustrates the selfishness of a few YMCA supporters in Alamo. The Mt. Diablo Region YMCA site,, has previously published that only 7% of Alamo residents support the construction and operations of YMCA commercial facilities in the Hemme neighborhood. In polling over the past 3 years, 76% of Alamo residents will actively support opposition efforts to such commercial construction and >83% would vote against the construction if it were a matter for election.

This is a selfish and abusive effort by the county, Danville, MDRYMCA and a handful in Alamo. The MDRYMCA and its handful of Alamo supporters even want Alamo parcel tax appropriations to support this neighborhood abuse.

Alamo neighborhoods have focused on this abuse in proposing formation of the City of Alamo so appropriate and thorough review, even elections, can be pursued. No incorporation by any group should avoid Alamo's majority opposition to SRV YMCA commercial facilities in the Hemme neighborhood.

Alamo neighborhoods,

Please attend the Alamo incorporation meeting, May 30, Creekside Church, at 7PM.

* Will incorporation provide a city council commitment keep commercial construction out of our neighborhoods?

* Will an Alamo City Council focus on neighborhood concerns, interests and advisory? What will you gain by local rather than county planning and decision making?

* Will community groups, as the minority in Alamo, set the agendas for an Alamo City Council?

* Will all incorporation plans include a formation charter that specifies a General Plan of our community?

Alamo, don't you really need to know?
