Rylan definitely did NOT deserve this. Personally, I never realized how many of people's hearts he has touched until now. In addition, I also cannot believe that the person who shot him was in my math class last year.. when he transferred to my school and came to my math class for the first time last year, little did I know that he would end up being a murderer...

suspects are SUSPECTS. this does not mean this kid is the murderer. maybe its just me but maybe the cops in danville are a little rusty at investigating homosides since they're usually going after underage kids smoking cigarettes. this kid had to have help if it was him and of course its easy to blame it on a foster child who really has no one on his side. it wouldn't suprise me if it was one of those wanna be gagster rich kids you have crawling around your town. those are the kids with the cars, the money, the parents who can afford good lawyers and without supervision because their parents are too busy being money hoarding workaholics or going shopping in walnut creek. i'm guessing none of you have been in foster care but tell me, how do you think a kid in a group home in alameda can sneak away to danville 45 mins away, shoot a kid then come back and not be noticed by the home director? not likley. on another note however it's terrible what happened to rylan and his family. I hope your community is doing all it can to support his family.

Olivka, this is really not the time to vent your hatred of people who live in Danville. An arrest warrant cannot be issued without sufficient grounds to arrest a particular individual. It doesn't mean he's guilty but it does mean there are grounds to believe that he is. Why don't we all just wait and see how this plays out?

I really dont feel much sympathy for Rylan and his family and feel that his girlfriend really didnt "love him". If she cared for him, she wouldve made him stop and inform his parents (HONESTY) if such a thing with drug sales were occurring. Its not right to shoot someone over a botched drug deal but in regards to the location, Oakland and Richmond has these events occurring quite often...

Im sure you have done things worse than smoke a joint. Maybe not illegal things but humanity things. You seem like a terrible person to me and probably not much fun to be around. On a final note ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE chuck and a doubt thats you.

Hey people wake up...just talk to a few San Ramon Valley High guy's and you will get the entire story. Yes you are right, the Danville Police do spend a lot of time stopping vehicles for very little reasons...but that's because they have nothing else to do. Now they do and I'm sure they sat a few guy's down from SRV and got all the facts. Rylan may have been selling and the buyer didn't want to pay the price...and the buyer from Oakland only knows one way to negotiate and that's with violence. The parents and the police in Danville better wake up and get their heads out of the sand. Just walk through the SRV campus at lunch time and after school lets out. If you keep your eye's and ear's open you may see and hear things that should shock you. I also blame the School Administrators, there heads are even deeper in the sand. They're on the front lines and they can't see the trees from the forest. And yes...it is very sad that a person lost his life over a drug issue... Instead of the Danville officials wasting money on events like Saturday, they should clean up the more serious issues around their little town. It may be difficult for them to accomplish that...when you have a Mayor, by his own words says, "he can't even say his name in 120 seconds" wow, how on earth can he run his little town. Wake up parents...it's happening all around you.

First of all, to the Alamo resident, you could not be more correct.
I would also like to make an other comment to our school district. That being, "what are they thinking". This 15 year old shooting suspect of Oakland was allowed to attend school in Danville, what the hell for? Not only at SRVHS until he was later transferred over to Monte Vista where he was expelled.
This is outrageous. How can this be fair to the our youth and there parents, being the taxpayers of this school district and the city that we live in, not to say Rylan would still be with us today.
This problem must be addressed by the school district for allowing residents from outlying areas to come in to Danville and live in group housing and attend one of our schools.
I do want to say the Danville police department did an outstanding job in catching this dirt bag from Oakland however; they need to drop the hammer on the drug dealing aspect immediately before anybody else is hurt or property values drop.

I can understand that the community is hurt and upset about this. Maybe the oakland outsider should not have been there. But it seems to me like people are proposing to live in a bubble. i mean,"why the hell was this kid in danville?" This is america thats why. this is messed up it shouldnt have happen but do u think the answer is to close your community to the rest of the world. I think thats part of the reason this kid didnt have respect for the danville kid and why he thought he could get away with it. guess what danville is in the bay area and its rough out here. no ones safe thats why commmunites have to pull togahter not close there doors.

Danville Weekly, how about some follow up & maybe some investigative work:
1) Where did the 15 year old get the gun?
2) The Upright Treatment Center, Alameda County supported, in a quite neighborhood in Danville, Contra Costa County? Why?
3) Previous problems from this center? One report of an sexual assault on a SRVH girl by another teen from this center.
Damn right I want to live in a bubble. Thats why we pay the price to live in this community.

It concerns me that the County does not notify neighbors in the area that these homes are down the street from them. If these are troubled teens, we darned well have a right to know. They have lists of pedophiles. Maybe we need a grass roots group to organize this. It also concerns me that the school district takes a troubled teen who is kicked out of one high school in Danville for drugs and transfers him to the high school across town. What are they thinking??? Somebody needs to get a handle on this type of behavior.

I agree, full disclosure. Even finding the address doing a Google search for this "group home" is hard to find. The director when interview my the media said he thought this was a "good kid" obiously he's out of touch and has no idea (or concern) who he's boarding.

Alamo resident and Home Owner- you clearly are disconnected from the times. Think about what you said… Why would a kid from Oakland go to Danville to buy pot? It’s the other way around, I would (assume) that the kid from Oakland was the supplier and Rylan was the buyer. For a gun to be brought to a transaction this would make one think that it is a large amount. For one to use said gun in a transaction a couple of things might have occurred 1) Rylan tried to steal the pot, I see this as possible as the kid was 15 and Rylan could have thought he was an easy target 2) The 15 year old was on drugs and well who knows what he was thinking 3) Maybe he was giving the gun to Rylan and it accidently went off (if he was buying drugs…)
I am a several years out of high school and I grew up in Pleasanton, which is very much like Danville, and was slightly associated with a group that was involved in similar transactions (though that is past me now). I do feel this is a tragedy and one that could have been avoided. My biggest suggestion is get to know your kids friends because the saying is 100% true- “You are who you associate with.” This would also answer your question “why the hell was this kid here anyway”- because he was invited. No one sneaks out of a house to talk to someone they don’t know is going to be there. This problem is much larger than you all could anticipate, when I was in high school I would say 60-75% of kids were or have used drugs. Most of the kids dealing were well off.
“And that event on Saturday” was put on for a man who accomplished what few could do. That was a true miracle and Sully deserved a Hero’s welcome.

Wake up people of Danville!!! Yes, it's sad this kid died from a drug deal. It's very clear he was making the wrong choices. He put himself in this situation and his parents ignorance kept him in the situation. For reasons unknown to all of us..It's very sad...
One thing that seems to be clear is according the kids he was the local "hook up" at the high school. According to the kids "he" was buying a large amount of pot from the shooter.. Just what do you guys think he was going to do with that pot? Duh! Sell it to his friends etc. on our local campuses /your kids/ our kids...Hello people of Danville we have a huge drug problem on our campuses. This is just not one kid on this myspace page....Everyone is so focused on the shooter "STOP" and take a look at our kids/your kids...Re-focuse on what our kids are doing...
Web Link fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=27582875&albumId=330208
The district/parents/kids/authorities/community needs to WAKE UP and get involved to slow this down. The kids need to learn from this.. It's our job as parents/community/teachers to teach them. It's no different then when we all went proactive about drinking & driving. The statistics are way down. Yes, it still happens but not not like it us to.
My kid(s) tell me that kids buy all the time on and off campus.. "Mom everyone does it" my kid is a only a freshman... I can only hope by talking with my child and being involved that my child will continue to say no to drugs. But people of Danville need to pull there heads out of there A** & stop living in this bubble.
Yes, this area is a great place to live but only if we strive to keep it that way.. Come on people wake up & get involved.. Fixing the problem starts here in our town with our kids.

You all have valid points about the drug use and availabilty at our local schools. However, think about it if this drug deal was between two Danville, Alamo or San Ramon kids there would have been a fight NOT a killing. Drugs have been in the schools for many years and YES something needs to be done about it, but did Rylan deserve to die over a pot deal. NO! My teenager has also told me about the drug use at SRVHS. We along with everyone else in this town live here for a reason, for the schools, the safety, quant small town environment. At the same time all of us residents are paying dearly to live in this Town.
I did some investigating and the owner of the Group Home lives in Danville and owns 10 homes in CC and Alameda County. Just think about the money they are making off this group home and living on Edinburgh Circle they must be well off! I couldn't verify if they own more group homes, but they do own property in Richmond and San Leandro. Here is their primary address:
Ricardo and Shuyun Vasallo
470 Edinburgh Circle
Danville, Ca
925-743-9568
I live near the group home and since this home opened up we have had cars and homes broken into. Additionally neighbors have seen kids that more than likely belong to the group home wondering in the middle of the night. Several times I have seen the police at this home, one time around Nov. of last year the police had a boy on the ground pointing a gun at him. My elder, widow neighbor has had on three occasions a knock at her door at 2 and 3am in the morning. We suspect it is the boys from the group home casing her house. She has lived in the same home now for 38 yrs and never had this occur. This is the only group home in town and what's to stop one from opening in your neighborhood? Something needs to be done about this group home.
We need to pack the Danville Town Council meeting on Feb. 3 at 7:30pm to demand they take action. Also we need to attend the next School Board meeting to ask questions and show solidarity.
Why are these group home kids allowed in our town and able to attend our schools? Their parents are NOT tax payers. If anything why did he(the shooter) get to attend SRVHS and Monte Vista and not Del Amigo?

So because these kids were left to be in a group home they should not have the permission to live in your community?
Why do you imply they are all bad?
Why shoudn't a kid get the benefit of a good school?
How do you know their parents are NOT tax payers?
Why do you assume that it is these kids who are causing all the problems in your neighborhood? Couldn't it be the other kids in the neighborhood who are on drugs? Maybe mommy and daddy have cut them off of their allowence and they are looking for trouble or a way to get more money.
The problem is not a group home, although that is where your community is looking to point its finger. I am sure you all will eventually be succesful at shutting down that group home, congrats to that now the kids will move San Leandro or Richmond or Oakland. Then they might end up supplying your kid with a large amount of drugs.
The problem is YOUR PARENTING. Kids in high school are just that- kids. Have you seen Rylans myspace page? DRUGS, DRUGS, DRUGS, and he had plenty of friends who were commenting on how cool it was. They weren't just talking pot, they also talk about ecstacy.
Anyone who has a kid that was friends with Rylan should drug test them. See if you really know your kid...

the purpose of locating a group home in a nice community is that the community supposedly provides a positive influence on the residents of the home. obviously, you're not doing your part because, apparently, Concerned Parent just wants them out of their town because they don't deserve a chance. it seems it's not such a nice community afterall because instead of the suspect reforming from his illegal activies, he befriended your local drug dealer who only welcomed and encouraged such behavior. it's tragic that rylan died, but it's also tragic that the suspect will spend most of his life in prison. if rylan and his customers did not provide a demand, there wouldn't have been a need for a supplier. i'm sure rylan's parents thought, "he's such a good kid, he would never do drugs." well, think again. do you really know what your kids are doing?

Let me tell you a story......I am a SRVHS graduate '96 -I grew up on Greenbrook Dr. at El Capitan Dr. - And EVEN BACK IN '96 I saw some s**t that I only thought I would see in Oakland or SF....A large flatbed tow truck barreled out of the Denny's parking lot off of Sycamore Valley and almost side swiped the car my friend was driving. It followed us all the way down Camino Ramon until we got to El Capitan - It flipped on the brights and got in close - we slowed down to stop at a stop sign...the truck pulled just ahead of us and spun sideways in the intersection, cutting off all routes. Four or Five large men wearing cowboy hats jumped out of the cab of the truck. Two of them appeared to carrying a baseball bat and a crowbar....they walked toward us menacingly.....we hit reverse and got the hell out of there.......Another time a couple month after that......I was playing frisbee under the street lights on my street at about 2am - I had a couple of my friends with me and we stopped what we were doing as soon as we heard a bunch of voices turning onto our street. A group of kids, younger than us but much more in numbers, started walking toward us. The fat kid in the back of the group carried a film camera, a couple others carried baseball bats. As they approached I realized I knew the kid in the front of the group. "Hey man," I spoke. "Don't I know you from auto-shop class 3rd period?" The kid looked confused for a second. "Oh yeah - Pedro! I know you man! You're all right." He then turns around to talk to his group, "Hey everyone, I know this guy. He's cool. Let's go somewhere else." So I had to ask. "What are you all doing wandering around....and with a video camera?" His response: "Oh man, a bunch of us are on acid and we are going to beat the shit out of someone and video tape it!" I told him good luck, and was forever grateful for that auto-shop class..........Danville is a sheltered community where it's easy for kids to resort to violence - it's up to the parents to raise their children in a positive environment.

I'm a former student from danville and let me tell all you soccer moms that ALL YOUR KIDS DO DRUGS. if you think your kid is somehow above this your just being naive. There is nothing to do, no where to go what do you think your kids do when they go out. It's ridiculous that you are attacking these kids living in group homes, if you think thats going to solve the problem go right ahead see what happens. I went to school in danville for 10 years and in high school all I had to do is make a couple phone calls and I could any kind of drugs I wanted, That place drove me insane! I never came in contact with these kids from the group homes, look around its YOUR kids that are selling the drugs, its YOUR kids that are buying the drugs. Danville and Alamo is a good market because its a bunch of over privileged kids that are bored out of there minds with ablsolutely nowhere to go. If your kid has a job and never has any money what the hell do you think there spending it on, if your kid doesn't have a job and is never asking for money than you most likely have a bigger problem. Look at your own kids, look at the suburbs there is nothing better to do.

What an incredible bunch of comments for such a typical story. Everyone should look at the link SRVHS Mom posted to Rylan's Myspace page:
Web Link (if this doesn't work, scroll up several comments)
Rylan's friends' screen names now include in them some variation of "RIP RYLAN"; some of them even have profile pictures taken at his impromptu doorstep memorial. I wonder if they notice the irony. These e-commemorations show up now in the comments they've long since made on photos of Rylan displaying and smoking pot, comments which betray their potent familiarity -- if not expertise -- and infatuation with the coolness of the whole business (not to mention racist, sexist, homophobic, but mostly just downright embarrassingly inane phrases*).
Of course, it's exactly in line with everything I remember about SRVHS, and every other high school in the area. Take a look at your kid's iPod and in his or her closet, listen to the language and speech patterns he or she has adopted, watch his or her favorite TV shows and movies. Your rich bored white kids idolize crass violent urban drug culture -- and they have enough (of your) money to buy into as much of it as they want.
Your Golden Age dreams of a utopian community -- and your conceptions of what constitutes a "bad" kid -- ring hopelessly false. The kids who buy and the kids who sell any and all substances at our schools are almost 100% of the time wealthy, healthy and popular and often even academically successful. Many of these kids will go on to good colleges, keep up the same thing and turn out just fine there, too. It's just how things are these days. Not just in Danville, but in every demographically similar community in California. And whether or not every kid supports it, by the end of high school they know it.
Here are some Myspace comments made on Rylan's self-posted photos which help represent the good, wholesome, insulated, well-heeled, strong-familied Danville youth we all love to mythologize.
-Pat REST IN PARADISE TO THE CUTTY RYLAN FUCHS [whose photo is of four guys reverently flashing hand symbols and showing off a cell phone on Rylan's doorstep after his death]: "nigga off like two!"
-Pat REST IN PARADISE TO THE CUTTY RYLAN FUCHS: 17 gram night!!!i took both pics mad props to myself on the secod one
-Rubey: hahaha @ pat, silly nigger
-Sean: "wat da fuk is a kike"
-G Babyy: "bang me please :]"
-And the newly glorified and immortalized deceased's own: "pat rapes autistic kids"
And, a little too ominously:

It is appalling that Danville residents have stated that they are concerned with "property values" and that they want to "live in a bubble". What message are you sending to your children?! This is a social issue, not a financial worry on your part so stop being so damn selfish. It is impossible to live in a bubble, and to think and act like you do is a grave injustice for your children who learn and model their behavior after you. With this attitude, you are not preparing your children for LIFE. And it further perpetuates prejudices and injustice, which make this world a dangerous place.
Also- I can promise you these homes for youth are not making money off their services. I have worked with youth in foster homes, shelters, and group homes and it is NOT a money making business, nor would anyone be motivated to do this type of work for money. So whoever said the owners are making money, needs to stop thinking in terms of money and start thinking in terms of WHAT COMMUNITIES NEED. If we abandon these youth that need services, they grow up to be adults and guess what- WE STILL HAVE TO "DEAL WITH THEM". We are not in a hermetic bubble. Our taxes either pay for their needs, or we face them in other ways in society. So please, let's continue to offer these services.
I am sure you can agree with that, although it gets harder to conceptualize when I ask "Can this be in your own backyard?". NIMBY (Not in my backyard)- heard of that? Well, I think this is what is going on here. Well, Danville has youth with needs too. And this youth probably happened to have no other option but to be offered services at this Danville place, so that's where he was. If it wasn't him, it would be one of your own in there.
Don't act like your children are angels and the "others" are bad, invasive and immoral. This could have been anyone. Stop with the generalizations and prejudice.

I've read all the above...a real sad situation. You parents with your heads in the sand better wake up before it's too late. And if you're smoking the same shit as your teenager, you better get a grip on it and stop.
And for all you weak minded school administrators and you teachers that cow down to them...you are the most shameful. I know what goes on at our local high schools and in some cases our lower level schools. Hell man, you're living with these kids 8 to 9 hours a day. You have ears and eyes, use them, show some backbone. Of course you won't be very popular, but let me tell you something, you're not very popular and/or respected now...the kids laugh at you for being so naive about the issue. They don't say, "that Ms. X, is cool because she turns her head when she sees drug active". They say, "don't worry about Ms. X she's got her own problems, she doesn't care what we do".
Wake up teachers and admin....that's why the classes are small, so you can be closer to the students. There's more to teaching then just reading out of that boring text book.
I think some aggressive and loving parents should call an emergency meeting at both Danville high school's and bring this issue to a head, before we read about another tragic story.
No, don't look to me as your spearhead, I raised my 5 children and they are doing very well, in fact 2 of them are products of SRVHS, along with 3 of my nephews and they also are doing very well, I guess it's all in how you bring them up.
