Before this escalates into various levels of prejudice, please do a follow-through on the events and the nature of the crime. Too many times, TDW's Forum has been a vehicle of prejudice. It needs your careful hand, as journalism, to make sure that reality be known.

Our growing community of Asian residents, so valuable for their cultural and professional contribution, needs to know that our region in a global community and welcomes diversity. We can both remember our welcome in SE Asia (Asean) and know that it is our pleasure to return the welcome.

I find it curious that Rick, the man who is constantly voicing his fear of immigrants working or living in our community, and encouraging our citizens to arm themselves against some form of foreign invasion, isn't voicing his concern for the poor cab driver beaten by drunken locals. Where is his outrage or irrational fear now? Where is his outcry for justice now? I'm not saying this is typical behavior for our fellow neighbors, but I am saying that these men exemplify my point that violence in our community can come from within and not some boogie-man threat from without. Violent people are not identifiable based upon their socio-economic status. Can you imagine the outcome of this incident had these men armed themselves as advised by Rick? I sure hope this victim and his family know that a majority of folks in our town are appalled by this kind of crime against anyone, minority or not.

I find it difficult to believe that you refuse to come out of the closet..... You are only hurting yourself and your family Aaron, this community loves you, we are here for you.

Other than Aaron taking Rick on (Aaron - that is a futile act, sadly) - what is the "closet" reference? What are you implying from a post where he allows for the reality that people from our own community can also (allegedly in this case) become violent? I agree with him - if we ignore the potential for mental illness (we've seen our share of it right on this forum) and other issues creating violence right in our community, we will not be open to providing assistance/supervision to those on the edge of committing violent acts right here.

You know what's creating violence? Those group homes. Ok, so these men beat an adult. That's not good. We can all agree. Don't be a fool and try to equate that with the murdering, raping gangbangers who are brought into our town via the group home. But good attempt at obfuscation people.

And I agree there's mental illness in this community. People like you are extremely ill. And you can't take me on because you can't win. And you can't win because your ideologies are built on such shaky ground. In summation, you're fools

Are there group homes in Danville? I just moved in, didn't know that.

As for the news above, it looks like racism to me. Pretty bad. But I'm really concerned now about group homes. What kind are they? Troubled teens or what? (sorry for ignorance, I don't want to change the subject, just wanted some pointers, if any of you can, appreciated)

I have been in the Taxi Business in Boston Massachusetts for 10 years now and I have learned 2 things..

1) People say things they shouldn`t when they are angry

2) People often get heated at cabbies

Aaron has tunnel vision, clouded by his hate for Rick and does not understand what Rick has been for and against. Rick is for our rights as a citizen to bear arms in our home and protect ourselves. This fight was nothing but a couple of drunks that tried to push a guy around and it went too far. In some states, the cab driver could have shot those guys and it would have been legal. Not in this state - our rights are being taken away by the small groups that want to make us into weak defenseless targets. Both in our homes and as a nation.
Rick - If I miss spoke, I am sure you will tell me.

To the Taxi driver, I just want to say sorry that this happened to you- not everyone in our community behave like those two ignoramuses. I hope you gain all your health back and can still support your family.

Alex, yes there are group homes here in Danville and they are in the process of creating more. They do bring in troubled teens from gang and murder capitals such as Richmond. One of these troubled youths murdered Rylan Fuchs, a seventeen-year-old senior at San Ramon. His murder is just one of the latest in the string of transgressions that have emerged from the homes, which also includes attempted rape, sexual harassment, and minors in possession of guns. The owners and managers of the group homes show little care for monitoring these troubled kids, allowing them to run about at all times of the night (Rylan was murdered in the dark of night.) They obviously don't do a good job of weeding out the murderers and other violent offenders, BECAUSE THEY SEE US AND OUR CHILDREN AS PAWNS, EXPENDABLE IN THE PURSUIT OF THEIR AGENDAS.

What the heck are parents teaching their children. Or are the parents even around? I can't tell you how many times I hear parents say "I give up - this is just too hard" when talking about their children". Until the day parents are actually held accountable for their children's behavior (till adulthood which by the way is 18) these things will continue to happen. Ironic that you have to get a license to get a dog, but any one can have children......

Hey.....whats the big deal? He's a taxi driver! They are the biggest slobs out there. Sorry if you don't like it but think about it!

Let the court system handle this situation before anyone begins to make judgements. Immediately jumping to conclusions without all of the facts is really isn't an appropriate approach to take. Questioning whether this is a hate crime, whether these two individuals are good parents, contributors to society, etc. shouldn't happen until they are tried by the system. If you don't like the system, change it.

I feel sorry for the Jawinder and his family. Nobody deserves a beating. I hope Mike and Jake understand that their actions have consequences. Let God and the judge decide. I have had business dealings with these two and they are notorious for acting without morals and ethics in their commercial real estate dealings at Colliers in Stockton. Enough is enough.

I hope Jake and Mike get good psychological counseling. I commend both for not driving that night, and wish for the sake of their families each could have better controlled their impulses that night. I know Jake was raised much better than he acted. And I hope some good comes out of this tragic situation.

Sam - "racially motivated" is different from annoyed with a cabbie for their lack of driving skill. I've had plenty of bad cab rides, but you wouldn't see me hurting someone because of it, and I especially wouldn't use race/gender/sexual orientation/religion (etc.) as a motivator to fuel my anger. That is what these men were allegedly doing. Not sure if you didn't "get" that, or maybe you belong on their bandwagon?

Even though this is wrong, remember, there are two sides to every story, we really don't know if the taxi driver provoked the fight. When people are drunk, feelings and emotions can escalate, and go into rages. This is not an excuse for their behaviour, but simply a reminder that there may be another side to this story. Being a taxi driver, he has to take his life in his own hands by driving around people who may just as well be murderers as well as good biding citizens. It's not much different than picking up a hitchiker. If he said anything to provoke their temper, he was putting his life in jeopardy, because he really does not know who is in his back seat.

Again, this is not an excuse for their behavior. What they did is inexcusable and they should be punished for their crime - no doubt!

I sincerely hope he recovers well and he is able to return to work and move on, we are not all horrible people and they are a poor example of what our community is made of.

How dare you people berate an individual because of the way he makes a living and if his driving skills aren't up to par you report him to whatever governing board there is over cab drivers. I read this forum to keep in touch with the cowardly racists that hide behind the pen and are deathly afraid of exposing themselves for fear of what they truly deserve, which is to be rebuked by their community for being so narrow minded and selfish.
