This week's police log

Original post made on Oct 19, 2009

The Danville Police Department provides Danville Express with a record of its calls each week. This is a sampling, omitting the more mundane, such as routine traffic stops.

I think that's a fantastic idea! Congrats and thank you to the Police Dept.! More openness and transparency strengthens our community, ensures more public trust, collaboration and public participation. Kudos!

And thank you Danville Weekly too.

That's the problem with Danville PD. They are too darn suspicious. If they were in East Oakland, there would be no need to be suspicious. Just arrest everyone driving because you know they are all guilty of something (a crime, or just simply being to good looking) (Probably the latter in most cases). Holla!

They only have suspicious stops because they've got nothing better to do. Also, what in the world is "promiscuous shooting"? Assuming it's random, does that mean someone was actually shot, or does it mean someone randomly shot into the air or ?

Minimee has a point. When you're a cop in a quiet community, what are you to do to while away the time? "Suspicious stops" are just the ticket. I, for one, was the target of one of these so-called suspicious stops, and although nothing came of it, I resent it. I used to patronize Danville businesses, in fact Danville was a great place to visit. My "suspicious stop" experience was enough to dissuade me from doing more business in Danville, however. I now go elsewhere.

If the Danville Police Department is being used for revenue enhancement, I hope that the city government realizes that this is a dangerous and short-term strategy at best. What good is revenue enhancement when businesses close due to a decline in patronage and there are no longer taxes to subsidize this nonsense?

A "promiscuous shooting" or a prom shoot is when someone calls in saying they heard gunshots. Usually it's a single explosion/shot which could be anything from fireworks or dry ice bombs to a car back firing. Officers will drive around the area, usually see and hear nothing else, and clear the call.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that an elderly man died and his wife has injuries and it is currently being investigated by the Danville Police, hopefully this family won't have to wait 9 months to hear the results of the investigation like the Fuch's family. Very sad.

Times are tough, crime is on the rise, and criminals are mobile so I, for one, am happy that the police are out there being visible.

In case anyone is interested, here is a summary of the posted data:

Auto

24 10 8 4 4 10 75
32% 13% 11% 5% 5% 13%

Quiet community???? I highly suggest you do a ride along with the Danville PD. I know you would be surprised how NOT quiet our town is Thursday - Sundays. I would LOVE to see one of the big talkers to be alone in a Police car...pull over a car (even in Danville) and not be sure who or what is in that car when you walk up to it...and guess what someone has a weapon...yes even in DANVILLE. No one EVER gives a thought about that in Danville!! We do need the Police to do their jobs...if you are an anti Police person...THEN DO NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG, and stay out of trouble!!

Quiet community my ass! There is more crime in Danville than you realize. Sure it's not the hood, but where do you think the trouble goes to steal? Our town, our streets, and our homes, and it's on the rise. We pay high taxes, and high prices for these homes. Protect our town, and keep it safe. I think our police are too easy. I know they have limits. However, do a crime in Danville, and Danville police should come down hard to send a message. Don't give them an inch, and maybe they will think twice about coming here to steal. Thank God for our police, add in more, and pull me over all you want. I welcome it.

Thank God for America and freedom of speech. Especially thank God for those who can do so without being profane and vulgar.

And, DPD, please pull Beth over all you want. She welcomes it.

Hey Danville PD, please keep up the good work. Most people living here have no idea how hard you folks work to keep the filth out of our town. Without your efforts, we would have a lot more knuckle heads causing havoc and pillaging our town. Thank you all very much for your hard work and dedication. As deputies of the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department, there are many other places you folks could have picked to work but chose to work in Danville instead. Thank you.

And for those whining about getting tickets from the DPD, how about using a handsfree kit, using your turn signal when you turn and change lanes, obey the speed limits, stop at stop signs and red lights, and don't drive or act like as ass!

Thank heavens these people can no longer waste the paper it would take to print this police log. It's a waste of time. It's the most pitiful journalism I've ever seen. The information is not informative, interesting or useful.

so Steve, a PROM is when: Officers will drive around the area, usually see and hear nothing else, and clear the call.
That's what they do all day anyways. all 400 of them (or seems like).

Yes, Minimee. And the real heros are the ones working in Richmond, Pittsburg, the Tenderloin in SF, etc. And those guys are compensated at roughly 65% of what the cops in Danville are being paid. Life is not fair, I guess.

Danville cops have a very easy job. They just have to sure they don't overcrowd the local donut or starbucks.

As a parent of two school age children, I appreciate DPD's responsiveness. We live in a small town that needs their protection.

I must say, though, this forum gets out of hand too often and has become the repository for people to "air their greivances". Let's keep it appropriate folks. Take your "dirty laundry" and anger elsewhere.

I encourage everyone interested in supporting our police and firefighters to join The 100 Club of Contra Costa County: Web Link

This is an outstanding organization.

As a Danville resident, I love to see the Police Log weekly. Contrary to "just so you know"-(a walnut creek resident!) I find it very informative. It's a reminder of what type of crimes are out there, and it's handy to be able to look up police activity later to find out if it was a robbery or not.
Thanks!
