This STILL isn't informative. The house was targeted because...

I understand the investigation, but the family has sent an email out saying that they didn't know the robbers. But the robbers knew them? Because they cased the house? They followed the people home from local places or places they shouldn't have gone?

My best guess is this has to do with drugs or a boyfriend/girlfriend situation. That would mean two crime incidents in this neighborhood in one year that are drug related. Parents-if you suspect your teenagers are up to something-make sure they keep it out of this neighborhood.

Because basically it's none of your business. If the police are telling us it's an an isolated situation, clearly they are aware there is no harm to worry about at your front door. There was a situation in the same area months ago, and we also worried. Once they let us know there was no threat to us, we let it go. Meaning: They know what the details are, and they are not concerned for other neighbors. We do have issues in our town from time to time. However, this is Danviile, not the South Side of Chicago.

PLEASE Kathy...that "this is Danville" nostalgia is a bit absurd. Everyone has their heads in the air, in their wine glasses, or up their neighbor's rears. The fact that three incidents, thank you for sharing, have happened in this "great" neighborhood in the past year demonstrates that this is going on...we don't pay what we pay for our homes to have these issues. At least on the South Side of Chicago we'd KNOW what to expect. I don't appreciate people allowing their kids to bring trash into this neighborhood-so YES it is MY BUSINESS. It is all of our business. And your isolated MYOB attitude is disgusting. That's great that the police and the family know what the details are...last time I checked, we have the 1st Amendment right to a free press. The Press has been forced to NOT report on this issue. It was reported...then it was gone.

Why don’t the police or the family who was robbed give us a description of the robbers' car or a description of the robbers? Police investigations go on all the time. Every night on the news we hear about crimes and often see photos or videos of the perps. Why is it that Danville residents are not privy to what's happening in their own neighborhoods.

Targeted or not, this incident is a reminder that it is best to be prudent and alert, for yourselves and your neighbors. The more we look out for one another, the better off we'll be as a community.

Let's get this straight - two strange men, ARMED with GUNS, burst into a Greenbrook home, ransack the place, and leave with "property", but other residents have "nothing to fear." Amazing. Let's all just unlock our doors, throw open the windows, and head on down to Floyd's barbershop for a trim.

The only way this "nothing to fear" explanation holds water is if the "property" in question either belonged to the gunmen or they felt it was "owed" to them in some way (most likely one of two things - cash or drugs). Along that line of thinking, the gunmen 1) targeted that particular home (i.e., not random) in order to claim/retreive what they felt was theirs, and 2) as a result, have no need/desire to carry out additional armed invasions against other Greenbrook residents. After all, if they were your typical fear-mongering armed home invaders (as compared to the kind of armed home invaders we do NOT need to fear) who randomly picked the house and stole money, jewelry, etc., we WOULD have something to worry about.

Sorry, Danville PD. Until we hear more from you, intelligent residents of Greenbrook cannot blindly accept your declaration of safety. Let's hope a responsible and more detailed explanation comes out soon.

A family's right to privacy is important, and protecting it is reasonable to a certain degree. But when activities/property within a given home threaten the general safety of neighbors and others in the Greenbrook area, the authorities have a duty to provide full disclosure and let residents know what's what.

I have one question for those of you who insist you must know the details of this incident: What will you do differently with that information? If is WAS random, what are the chances those individuals in that vehicle will be back in Greenbrook anytime soon?If it indeed was NOT random, they won't be coming back to target you. Why do we--the Greenbrook community-- have to persist in perpetuating the hell that one family is going through by speculating and spreading rumors about what may have happened? Doing this is not making any of us safer, and it is diminishing us by our lack of compassion.

There was a home invasion in Alamo a while back. The owner killed one guy and the other one killed the owner. The robbers delivered antiques to the house so that is how they were targeted. It certainly was nice to know the truth so we can learn from it.

The kid that was shot and killed on his porch last year was a drug dealer. It was certainly nice to know the truth so we can learn from it.

If you are not going to tell the truth don't say anything at all. The "all is well" article with no details is insulting.

I want to preface this by saying how scary it must have been to be at gun point by strange men in your own home. I am relieved that no one was hurt or for that matter killed.
I believe in respecting one's privacy but when an incident like this occurs so close to home we all have to wonder what the heck is going on in our neighborhood!!! Especially, when guns are involved!!!! This is the 2nd incident that I know of that's involved a gun. I have lived here for 13 years and never has this been an issue in Greenbrook. Other areas of Danville have started to call Greenbrook "THE HOOD". How do I explain that one to my kids?

What I would do with this info. is use it as a teaching moment for my children just like I did when a teenage boy was shot down in front of his home. My kids hear about these incidences at school so I have to have details so I can answer their questions honestly vs. them hearing rumors at school. When we had break-ins happening we all wanted to know the details so, how is this different? Whether it's a break-in, a murder, a home invasion at gun point these people have all been violated but we have a right to know what is happening in our neighborhoods. I respect that the Danville PD is conducting an investigation but we want and need more details. We want descriptions, we want to know what they are doing to bring these men to justice and how they are going to prevent these crimes from continuing to happen in our community.

Well the police did arrest 2 people later that night on the same street. If you look at the Danville Police log you will see it. If you look at all the Danville Police Logs (I have) you will see that any arrest, anywhere in the city for a suspicious circ is rare so the odds of it happening 2 hours later on the same street clearly indicate its related. So basically they have someone or more than one in custody and yes I agree, are trying to sweep it under the carpet. But yeah it would be nice to know the deets.

How can anyone possibly say "It's none of your business" when something like this happens in your town, let alone your neighborhood! More information certainly can't hurt. That attitude of ..it's none of my business and I don't want to get involved, have led to a lot of bad things lately in this town. Moreover, this is just the mentality criminals thrive on! FYI, the two "kids" at the house were selling Oxycontin and the two suspects, a white male, approx 45 years old, 5-10, 165 pounds, short cropped black and grey hair, dark jeans, brown jacket with patches, cloth covering neck, earing in left ear and a black male, approx 40 years old, 6-01, 220, short beard, jeans and a jacket,baseball cap fled in a 1990-1995 Acura or Honda, either silver or light colored, possibly two door.

Both suspects knew who they were dealing with and what they wanted as they definitely targeted this home. Drug dealing Danville kids may think they are smart, but forget that certain businesses, though lucrative, bring along certain risks and dangerous side effects.

What will we do different?? Hmmmm....let me think. Well for starters if it was random I will not leave my teenager home alone at night to babysit. I will not have carpet cleaners, house cleaners and the like coming to my house because this could be the way they "targeted" the house. Now if it was drug related or a personal vendetta then I will feel safe leaving my children home alone.

We do need to know why they were targeted so we can judge them but simply to know how we should go about our business. Right now the economy is tough and people do desperate things in desperate times. Of course they will come back to the same neighborhood, haven't you heard about all the break ins in the past 2 years? I won't leave anything in my car for fear someone will break a window because they think it is valuable...it has happened!!!!

I'd like to take this moment to discuss responsible gun ownership. I want people protecting themselves, but I just have to give a little advice to the newbies. A few people I've talked to in the area who just recently bought guns because of the rising crime told me they actually sleep with loaded weapons in their bed. That's insane. You do now have far more chance of harming yourself than being harmed by a criminal. And the last thing we need is the libs to have some story to latch onto, such as someone hurting themselves, or a kid getting hold of a parents gun and getting killed or accidentally killing someone, so that they can claim legal gun ownership is just as dangerous as gangbangers with guns. Targets or not, this is our Danville. We all need to be watchful, look out for each other and if your gut is tugging at you when you see something don't hesitate to get it investigated. Furthermore with the economy the way it is people will be getting more brazen to survive. I am not suggesting we all get guns but locking our doors, keeping valuables in the house with us and not in our cars will help stave off some of the crime. And keeping a watchful eye.

personally i think that this situation is no ones business but the family that it happened to. shit happens. deal with it and get over it. it didnt happen to you and be thankful about that. Some of you parents will bury your children. 50 yrs ago Livermore had no drugs. 40 yrs ago the schools had gangs, the PD would have a meeting with parents at school and say "we know we have a small gang situation and we will be talking with the kids and tell them not to join the gangs". The PD is still talkin every year. My children now tell me that 30 yrs ago the gangs were in charge of the students and the union was in charge of the teachers. 10yrs ago people would move across town to allow their kids to go to a better school. 5 yrs ago my maid told me she had to leave and take her son to her x husband in Mexico, so he could keep the boy out of the gang & alive.I asked what happened, she found out the boy was to rape a girl and if she said anything the gang members would use knives on her. The boy was to be promoted in the gang.About 2 months ago a school admin. lady was bragging that the drug situation in her school was getting better. There was only one or two busts per month.The gang leaders want the newbys to get busted, the lawyers spend hours teaching the kids their rights. The PD has never been able to decrease the drug traffic. Danville had drugs many years ago, another 10 yrs and it will be same as Livermore. Think about what the kids get into, SF, Richmond, Oakland,total at least 100 executions per year. The news media call them "Drive by,s" like after intermission the people come back to life. Many of the kids are burried in Livermore. Do you know what the executions are about? Add up all the executions within 100 miles of SF and it is ----- per month. No one ever talks about them.Do you know why? Do you know that Stockton has 3 executions each summer night? Do you think legalizing weed will make everything OK? Have you ever heard a teen ager dying from throat cancer,"mommy my throat hearts" is what you hear 24/7. Yes I know weed is not habit forming. Parents know where your kids are 24/7 or you will bury them.Do you know where your kid is tonight and what they are using? If you do not want to take care of your kids the gangs will. Why not drive south on 680, east on 580 and south on N. Livermore Ave. About 1/2 mile on right is a little hill with a nice quiet cemetary. Danville residents shouldn't panic over this incident, but common sense should prevail. We should be proud of our community and our local PD is one of the best there is!

The reality is, that the unexpected could happen anywhere, to anyone at anytime in any neighborhood. Yes the economy is causing an increase in crime, but the thing to do is not to panic and just excersie common sense.

Call the police anytime if you suspect or see something suspicious. Lock your doors 24/7. Always make your home appear to be occupied when you are not home. Intrusoins are fewer than burlaries, but they obviously still happen as we have just learned.

Targeted or not, a bad guy can still accidently go to a wrong house that was not intended. Guns are not the answer! Intrusions happen when the home owner is not expecting it. Statisticly, an unexperienced gun owner hurts an innocent family member or neighbor, or has his gun used against him in the act of the crime. No one is ready for s shoot out in the OK corral! And to have your weapon stolen in a burglary and to be used else where is a horrible feeling of guilt!

Whats the answer? Common sense practices, and get a quality ALARM SYSTEM from your locally based alarm company where you can have fast emergency responce when needed. Call our Danville Area Chamber of Commerce, and find out who is reccommended and get an alarm sytem before the horse leaves the barn......we did and I sleep alot better!

I wonder if these same conversations were heard years ago in the NOW crime ridden areas. The most frightening attitude being "... mind your own business..". People who don't want to get involved and bury their head in the sand, give a real furtile ground for crime.

Take the advice of Common Sense and take precautions. But be aware what's happening. Don't blame everyone, especially the police for the lack of parental control around here. I am stunned at how local parents are child-whipped, catering to their every need (and even some the kid doesn't know about - for instance, kids do not need Nike Air Jordan shoes)! All parents need to Man Up and take responsibility for creating a healthy and structured environment so their kids can learn core values. It time to stop being such wimps!

But in order to watch you need to know what to watch out for.

The parents are demonstrably not able to do it all themselves, so, we need to be the village needed to raise the kids.

Knowing that some kids, in the area, are dealing drugs lets you watch out for increased levels of visitations. Maybe they are planning a Homecoming event, but maybe not.

Knowing to listen to references to Oxycontin, (I hadn't heard of it previously), knowing the physical signs to watch out for and knowing the dangers associated with use or abuse and maybe how to deal with an overdose are all useful. Pupils too wide, or too small - what are the signs to look for? Do you know? If you have kids still at home you need to find out, for which this looks like a useful resource:

Actually Kathi's remark to not worry just let the police handle it and it doesn't concern you is stupid. I have to say I am very disappointed in the Danville police in the interactions I have had with them. I reported a break in, they said they would come look at the situation and they NEVER showed up. They did not call, they did not show up at all. I had better response with the Oakland Police, the Sunnyvale Police (very well run organization,) the Chico Police Department and the San Leandro Police. This does not leave me with the confidence to say that I can assume that they are handling it.

The presumption of privacy because you are embarrassed is overridden by the real concerns for their safety of the neighborhood. If your kids/teens/adults still living at home who should grow up are involved in criminal activity, you should be ashamed. That means you have failed in your responsibilities.

Those of you who poo-pooed the commentator who said that the premium price paid for Danville property included a presumption of safety were wrong. The price does reflect that presumption, if that presumption is proven to be false, the property values will reflect that. So, the $800,000 house will then go for $300,000 as it does in other parts of the bay area. This will show itself in the money available to run the town/schools/etc. It is an actual concern.

Actually my experience with alarm companies is pretty poor. I had an alarm installed and paid for monitoring for about 5 years. Had a remodel done in which the sensor for the entrance door was damaged, showing an open circuit for days. I noticed it after three days and called the alarm company to report it. They told me that yes, they had noticed unusual results from my system and thought about calling but hadn't done so yet. I canceled the system. Had someone actually broken it, my family and self would have been dead for three days before anyone might have called.
