How sad. It is difficult if this is true, because of his close contact with children.

Have we learned nothing from Bernie Ward?

A question for "Sad": Exactly what part of this very brief story is not accurate? The date and location of Vawter's arrest? That they found kiddy porn on both his work AND his home computer? (whoops, there goes that set-up theory of yours out the window - and I know you are one of the people who posted here previously on this topic) Where he worked or that he was a Cub Scout leader? Police executing a search warrant at his home? That he was released on bail? Perhaps the bail amount was incorrect? Please, do enlighten us. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time the "Weakly" made a boo-boo, but it's up to you to set us straight. He hasn't been convicted yet. And who knows, maybe Vawter was just doing research like Pete Townshend ten years ago (that wicked Uncle Ernie!).
There are people out there with undeserved predator labels & criminal records who got caught doing nothing more than having sex with a 17-year old girl when the guy was 18. But this is emphatically not the case here. But Sad, if delusion helps you through your day, don't let me get in the way.

Child pornography will continue to happen, as long as people are downloading it!! This is serious!! Put him away and make an example for the east bay, that this will NOT BE TOLERATED!!! PERIOD!!!

No room for error!!!!!! No room for excuses!!!!!

He did it on his own!!! He is an educated man!!!

Police said the anonymous tip came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline. I doubt they "set him up." No fluke they found what they found, arrested him and now pressing charges!!!!

Don't hold this against the good people who donate their time to help children in any way!!! That is the sad part!!! That is the other damage he has done!!!

The police should also be checking into other offenders who may be more dangerous than just some pictures. The police should STOP making up stories that they received some tips about Michael. The police does not even come if someone robs anything, so who is checking pictures.

jrm is a registered user.

This is really a sad situation...given our little town and this forum so much has been publicized before he is found guilty. His compulsive behavior was sick and if found guilty his time in prison will be even more horrific due to the nature of his crime. I feel for his family more than anything...what a gut wrenching shock for them and I will keep them in my prayers. One of my best friends has been a Boy Scout leader for years and each year he had to attend a class on child sexual abuse and be "certified" that he had done so, so Mr. Vawter had plenty of chances to reflect on the wrongful nature of his fetish. Justice will be served but his family's ordeal is going to be a long and difficult road. Moreover, I feel for the helpless kids victimized by these cyber perverts.

What is the background education and journalism experience and credentials from Dolores and Emily?

The Freedom of speech is not allowed in Danville Express. Danville is a democratic society, but it seems that in violation of their own policies. ACTING like COMMUNISTS.

DANVILLE EXPRESS IS MORE COMMUNIST THAN CHINA. This paper is destroying Michael...

In my opinion nothing further of value can be added to this Town Forum on Michael Vawter other than what has already been posted between the two published Danville Express articles. I would suggest that that the comment section on this incident be closed by Danville Express until further significant facts are communicated by the authorities or courts.

Cross check Danville Expres facts with the CCT, they are nearly reported identically.

[Portion removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language] , had child pornography on both his home and office computers!!! After he was busted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTip hotline!!!!!!!!!!"he didn't molest them?" Great...let him babysit your children! This came to the attntion to the Police after an anonymous tip!! I guess it was a fluke that he had child porn on his computers!!! [Portion removed due to disrespectful comment or offensive language] Get a real life!! This guy should get 50 years to life!!!!!!!

You're right Brooke, and one avenue the FBI and police should try to follow is where child porn photos come from to start with. It's not a simple click of the right mouse button though. The only way I can see to trace back a source might be for detectives to infiltrate the kiddy-diddler groups, and that takes a lot of time and tax money. Something that makes about half of our populace clutch at their wallets. And even if the funding for this type of operation was there, I would bet that a goodly percentage of child porn originates overseas. Then it gets into even more money. In the mean time, this country ought to have large rewards for info that results in arrests. It should be something anyone would do for free though.....

HELLO - almost 200 files? I think that 1 would be too many! This was obviously taking up a lot of his time.........sell some insurance ....watch some child porn. California Coastal should be ashamed that they didn't monitor their computer usage closer.... oh he was an owner so do what you want and turn your head! Move your insurance from this firm.... no integrity or ethics
