Based on what's presented here, some questions come to mind:
- From the time the robbery took place and time of shootout, wasn't there a negotiator involved?
- How long was the standoff outside the building before supsect was killed?
- Did the suspect start pointing and or shooting immediately?
- Did officers REALLY have to shoot/kill the suspect or could they have preserved the suspect's life by: using a negotiator, tear-gasing the place and or bean bags to injure the person rather than KILL?

Seems like there may have been some potential trigger happy folks on the scene lacking adequate training?

It is easy to be an armchair quarterback. Bye the way Thugs are not reasonable people. This Thug used a gun to negotiate. I have no questions regarding the police response, it all makes sense to me.

It is sad that these things have to happen, but I am grateful that the police are there to protect and serve.

After Oscar Grant being made into a hero for being a thug who thinks he can bully and threaten people in public places, I fear that bit by bit, the police will lose their ability to protect the truly innocent.

The Oscar Grant case shouldn't have been about race, but it has become about that. Because of the "race card" being pulled, this has turned into an act of terrorism. Businesses and individuals, no matter how they honestly feel about the case have been forced to publicly back the Grant supporters in order to feel safe.

Treebeard, Exactly! An officer has a split second to react. People have got to begin taking responsibility for their actions. Wave a gun in public, you might get shot. Should be end of story.

I feel sorry for the police who will have to live with knowing they killed a man. I feel sorry for the victim's family.
I feel safe knowing the people of San Ramon will not be rioting like a bunch of barbarians.

To MTizzle - you certainly have the right to raise questions, but I think it is ridiculous to post your thoughts based on "what is presented here". It's the Danville Express for goodness sake, not a police report. I have no idea what really happened one way or the other, but I certainly wouldn't go online and start questioning the police who were faced with a guy who they already knew stole a car, rammed it through a store and stole a gun, and then caused a 7-11 Clerk to call 911. Your post seems inappropriate, preliminary and naive to me.

MTizzle omitted some very important resources that should have been called. In addition to the negotiator, they should have made sure that all parties agree to the decision of the 'Arbitrator'. They should assure that the negotiator is certified by the AAA (American Arbitrator Association).
Why wasn't the President of the local NAACP called? Why wasn't an ACLU attorney called to bring order to this confrontation. They would raise more questions than MTizzle could.

But importantly, we need many thugs with cameras to be there to take videos of the abuse being dealt out.

Considering they weren't there and based on this report, I am proud of local police for such swift action. They are to be commended.

Teach your children to FOLLOW THE LAW! And when police ask you 40 times to put your gun down..... PUT IT DOWN. This is the law, follow it,or be shot. Sad, but too bad. His only request was WEED. Nice request to give officers while they are begging you to work with them. Makes me sick.

In view of the economic crisis (not to be wasted) it would have been far more patriotic for Mr.
Baumgardner to have stolen an American made car. Preferably either a government owned
General Motors or Chrysler product.

We don't know what make of gun nor its country of origin but chances are it was not
an American made gun.

Perhaps the police were incensed by this lack of patriotism and shot him prior to a negiotiatior, a ACLU attorney or the NAACP being involved.

So true Lisa, where are the parents when these kids are growing up?? Instead of wheeping and wailing when the law finally catches up with these thugs, and blaming the LAW, how about teaching kids that we live in a law abiding society!! How sad when lawlessness like we saw in Oakland last night is excused! There is a difference between these thugs. Oscar Grant - was lying face down with no gun pointed at law enforcement and listening to racial slurs. This thug pointed a gun at law enforcement, no mention of racial slurs. The officers took the actions to protect themselves first. Unfortunate, and I'm sure race isn't a question in this case.

Imagine if that was your son, brother, or friend. You don't know the background of his life or what may have caused him to do what he did. Have a heart and think before you make opinions.

Who says they are thugs? not evey one that does soemthing wrong or commits suicide via the police are thugs you racist f***s.. mayby he lost his job or his wife and couldnt take it any longer. Mayby he used to be in the army and is suffering PTSD and couldnt take it any longer.
