....Step-by-step, inch-by-inch! As someone who lives within walking distance to downtown, I'm looking forward to seeing the final outcome for this historic piece of property! (Note to Design Review Board: Don't blow it! Make us proud of the structure, and maintain our beautiful downtown!)

Hopefully no low low low ghetto housing Renee voted for will be allowed in

OMG: Look at the plans! We waited for over a decade, suffered with a crumbling eyesore, and what do we get----a much worse stucco, flat-roofed eyesore!

What was wrong with the "wild west" theme buildings that they are tearing down to put up this KB Homes look-alike stuff?? At least those buildings bore a relationship to the Town's history. This new stuff is "early strip mall". Come on! And the Mayor,an architect the last time I checked, and his chosen council member Renee Morgan (who said she was an "architectural designer" and isn't) call this "well-designed architectural" keeping with the "historic downtown")??

With all the great architects around town let's hope the design is something attractive and not just something we've seen everywhere else. Maybe with a fountain or artwork, nice landscaping with trees, plants on the corner and sides of building. What concerns me most is the increase in square footage and 16 housing units. Please let's have upscale retail (not tacky gift and tshirt shops) and some appealing restaurants to the residents of Danville. At this point, after so many years of blight I guess we can be happy about the fact that it is finally moving forward.

Pathetic Dave rants on about his obsession with "ghetto housing" and Renee Morgan. Obviously Dave has nothing going on in his life.

This will be my new backyard, but my dumb question is so where are these peoples suppose to park? Did they take into consideration most households now have 2.5 autos or more?

I do hope this pans out face it the present rotting structure is an eyesore but it's a gamble look at neighboring cities some have pulled it off others are empty retail spaces with stacks of overburdened patios (hanging laundry and sat dishes let you know it's being lived in) .. whenever there's development I always want to ask, Well Mr. Baldacci in which unit will you be living in?

And rest easy Dave! as the only Mex/American residing within a block of the development I will personally shoo away any of my fellow compadres! ;-)

Don't about parking, as we know from the General Plan hearings, there is going to be a lot of people using public transportation....what a joke.

The local business bars and restaurants may want to oppose the housing plans in the downtown core. All it will serve to do over time is lock in place residents who will complain about the noise from late night patrons. Next thing you know it will be cause to shut them down early, or limit their numbers. Both prospects are not palatable to retail bar and restaurant owners. I hope they don't believe for a second that putting housing in the downtown core is going to be good for business. They'd be as dumb as you can imagine if they go along with this hogwash. The only reason housing in the business core is being put in is so some of the debt for the developer can be retired. Let them rent out commercial space only, a far better option, IMHO

So where ARE the new residents supposed to park? I didn't realize they had nixed the underground parking (that made too much sense). Figures. Guess I better get to the meeting.

The housing is being put in to satisfy ABAG's housing demands for Danville. And there is much more to come in the future--just check out the One Bay Area plan just passed by the ABAG board and the Metropolitan Transportation Council.

Danville is a "transportation hub", didn't you know? And all those people in the new houses will be using public transportation to get to work ---that is if they don't get fired because the once- every- few- hours bus can't get them to their jobs on time. Or perhaps they will walk to their job in Danville.

Yes, Danville, voters, you asked for this when you voted in the horrible current Town Council. They didn't even bother to submit comments on the One Bay Area Plan, nor would they even hold a public hearing about it. They are get-along politicians that fear the ABAG establishment; they DON'T REPRESENT DANVILLE RESIDENTS!

I'm for:
1. underground parking (as long as there is not a water-table issue),
2. three stories is OK with me (especially if terraced or with set-backs or patio areas with vegetation),
3. the building and landscape need to be a real architectural beauty (excellent materials and color; nice, pleasing design; something to make its mark on Danville).
4. Think about the uses. Will residents complain about town noise? (at least incorporate excellent sound-proofing). Take advantage of town events. Make it a place to watch July 4th parades, etc.

Personally, I don't think that highly of Danville Planning--I'm not impressed by the results I've seen. So I have HIGH DOUBTS that this project will be that great.

With all the time spent (and all the money paid to Danville Planning), I'll be really unhappy if there turns out to be insufficient building parking for the actual "users" of the location.

Oh, the plans already look BORING! Cute.........but boring.
It already looks like an inefficient design with lots of wasted inner space and a wall of buildings at the sidewalk level. Put some more "spaces" on the outside.
And I'll bet the "residential units" are of little use or interest as well.
Allow them to build quality 2-story townhouses on top with some recreational amenities--something desirable and befitting a high-scale resident.
There's nothing to be "proud" of here--just a bunch of small term lease-fronts. More little shops/stores/restaurants. (I'm OK with restaurants.)
Is there any commercial/office space?
Where's the 2nd story? Where's the residential plans?

Who in the heck would want to live downtown after they heard the bar noise night after night?

On the comment that three stories was ok. That idea was nixed a long time ago cause it was downright ugly, did not fit in with overall look of downtown and blocked views of Mt. Diablo for residents on the westside. his is a project for the developer, for the town of Danville and its need to have more revenue tax, and not for those of us who live here. Yes, it is to comply with ABAG but that will be well taken care of too by the eyesore of the high density KB project on San Ramon Valley Blvd. that is almost completed. It has low income apartments that will be going up soon too. I'm so excited to have more traffic on Sycamore/SRVB intersection! So should everyone else. Thankyou Danville Council and Planners. You really are taking care of the quality of life here.

I hate to interrupt the reality-free tub thumping of the usual right wing loonies, but the schematic clearly shows a couple dozen interior parking spaces for the residential units. Since the site is across the street from the Railroad Ave. parking lot I would assume that the retail and restaurant customers would be parking there.

As for "bar noise night after night" - have you ever been to downtown Danville on a weeknight? After 10 PM you could bowl a solid ten frames in the middle of Hartz Ave. without being disturbed by the presence of any living creature. I understand that the status quo is that everyone in Danville is supposed to be a boring and bored suburbanite, but there's a slight possibility that a handful of people with detectible pulses might actually like to live downtown instead of on a court lined with stucco 4 bedroom 3 bath SFR's with 3 car garages. In which case: ohmygod! Our quality of life is doomed! Doomed, I say!

The proposed housing will help meet our future U.N. obligations.

People have a right (yes, a RIGHT) to affordable housing under Article 11 of the U.N. Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. This treaty imposes the principle of “progressive realization,” including, for example, the obligation to adopt legislative measures (e.g. housing subsidies, increased taxes, zoning, etc.) in order to achieve this right to housing.

The U.S. signed this treaty but those pesky Republicans in the Senate continue to block its ratification.

Clearly, people who are opposed to high density housing and goals of this treaty are loonies.

Huh? said: " Since the site is across the street from the Railroad Ave. parking lot I would assume that the retail and restaurant customers would be parking there."

I think you are way off here!
When a person builds a building on their land, I think they should provide their own parking for that building.....not rely on someone else's parking on other land or on public parking.
Unless you want to volunteer YOUR LAND for the overflow parking needs, each building should have its own sufficient parking for its intended purposes.

From past experience, I don't trust Planners to demand enough parking.
They use a bunch of BS compensation methods to arrive at their compromise decisions: compact car spaces (which just lead to lots of dents and squeezing), average usage projection numbers (rather than busiest day usage and busiest time-of-day usage projections).

Hey spcwt - how's the tinfoil holding up in your hat? I'd hate to see the guys in the black helicopters broadcast messages into your brain again. I know you hate it when that happens.

This project will not happen anytime soon! The developers are upside down and are relying in selling the residential units at a premium to recoup their money and justify the cost to construct the reatil. Good Luck with interest rates rising!

Oh yeah? Well, on my home planet, you’re the one who’s crazy! Ha ha!!!

Seriously, I didn’t vote for a guy who’s killed hundreds of kids with illegal drone strikes.

So, which one of us is crazy?

So, spcwt, you didn't vote for Bush or Obama? Who runs for president on your planet, anyway?

There were several third party candidates that were plausible choices as a protest vote.

Last time I checked our country is guided by the Constitution and not the socialist loons, so at, like you and the UN.

I'm sad that there will be no more "Wild West" theme with the Danville Hotel project re-design. All personality, uniqueness, and history will be torn down to rebuild this drab monument. It looks a lot like the Memorial Center and Danville library designs so it should all fit in, but it would have been nicer to have an updated version of the "Wild West" theme to excite my little ones about going downtown and even visiting the train station...

Oh, well.... time to conform and get in line... "we are all the same..." mantra continues to echo throughout the government systems as well as in the architectural venues as well... Way to go, BIG GOVERNMENT!

Disenfranchised Mom - this is a private project. Castle Construction Co. All the Big Government you whine about does is make sure it meets the code and general plan and make suggestions about style issues so it won't clash with surrounding buildings (see the post above complaining about no parking.)

Personally, I felt that the Old West Kitsch was dumb to the point of being embarrassing. But it's not my property, so it wasn't my place to tell them what to do. If you want the funky wild west schlock go ahead and buy the property and build what you want.

Cracks me up how the right wingers pontificate about socialism and the Constitution - then complain that the city isn't forcing the private property owner to do what they think he should do with his property. I guess some folks just have no sense of irony.

This purposed building has zero character - looks like strip mall- what the heck are they thinking? As for the living space, parking will be a nightmare.
