And yes, low housing breads low grade people that couldn't care less for the community. Just look in other communities...build them a new facility and within 8 to 12 months it looks like a battle zone...that's because they do not care...

I know it's de rigeur to use this comment section for vitriolic misspelled remarks, but I'll try to refrain. The Danville council and town management comprise remarkable folks who are doing a fine job. Danville is a destination small town, of which we may be truly proud. Affordable housing, should there be any, is for retirees, teachers, single parents, etc. However, it is unlikely that many, if any, of the housing units in the redevelopment will affordable rentals.

PS Please don't "bread" low grade people. Or next you'll be deep frying them. That would be a low grade thing to do, surely?

@Bob O: Affordable housing cannot legally and should not be restricted to "retirees, teachers, single parents, etc." That's the lie the Council tried to fool the public with when the public stormed the 2030 General Plan hearings and demanded that downtown Danville not be designated a "Priority Development Area" for high-density housing in the Plan. The Council backed off, but now ABAG is showing that Danville's downtown is in fact a "PDA" on its PDA list. The Council refuses to ask that the downtown be removed from the list.

This is just another reason Danville has lost it's charm. Open space being built up and cramming highly overpriced multi family housing into every nook and cranny. I wouldn't live there again if my life depended on it. The DH is a landmark that deserves to be rebuilt!

I have lived here over 30 years (since I was 3) i rent here and resent the low income tirade from "concerned" people. Low income per the area is not going to bring the muggers here. It will maybe bring people who grew up here work hard and make ok money but not what it takes to buy here. A few rental units in downtown is not going to ghetto the town, please get over yourself.

Hey Mr. Old Guy...you are right, my neighbors do find me a delight and very informative. They also appreciate my aggressive approach to issues of importance. They for some reason sometimes do not want to engage...as you know that does not bother me.

Why bother the right wing nuts with reality, folks? Their minds are already made up (or perhaps have been made up for them.) Ignore the fact that Danville has had Section 8 housing units for many years - did you even know that, haters? Or that the "high density housing" that has already been built down by the freeway is in fact inhabited by local seniors and the developmentally disabled, just as intended - and, as incredible as it sounds, no crime wave has yet hit Danville from that benighted corner of the town.

That's only "reality." Not really in high demand amongst the right wing lunatic fringe.

Yes, it's a pity that so many of the posters here live their lives guided by fear.

As I have pointed out roughly 1,231 times in the past, I am no fan of Julia (well, maybe if she would just get her prescription refilled) or a wingnut of any variety. Given the KB-Elworthy debacle though, for now all you fellow lefties will have to color me un-trusting where our city planners are concerned.
I am not, and have never been worried over who pays what rent amount. Are the dastardly non-pale-skinned folks who work at the various restaurants for 10.50 an hour supposed to commute from Hayward? Or sleep in the parking lot behind Los Panchos? No, I think not.
In this case my worries are placed solely on what sort of structure might arise from the ashes of the Hotel's errr.... backside, as it were. With recent history in mind - two blocky structures in the downtown area (Bridge's wine bar and the mutant rear conjoined twin of the A-frame by Trader Joes) - not to mention the clear cutting of the beautiful redwoods in front of the Vet's Hall, I do not trust one member of council or planning commission, current or past.
It may be hard to believe, but since I plan to live here a long, long time, I hope to be proven wrong. My huge ego can handle it. Of course, there was also a day when I hoped George W would not be as dim as he appeared.

As Derek's post attests, the various issues associated with Danville growth, no-growth, and "type of growth" aren't really right-wing/left-wing issues, and so there is really no call for some of the usual political name-calling. Maybe there is SOME correlation between overall political leanings and local issues, but it is far from being a strong correlation. Is there a NIMBY factor in the discussion of local issues? Of course there is - that's sort of the definition of a local issue, and all that we're usually debating is the size of the backyard that we're each concerned with....

OMG, I DO hope they put in a nouveau Botox injection center under the new location! I have to drive so far to the nearest location, like 1/4 of a mile. When the Hotel demo / rebuild project is completed, the under privileged 'low income teachers, retirees, + single parents' (I know, I know, it's our fault they are in that position), err, I mean Victims, can watch in awe as the Botox clients enter the complex. LOLs abound. I smell a denial of services lawsuit.

They may be tearing it down but I don't think they will be putting up anything new anytime soon. They are way underwater on that deal, can't get financing, etc. The Baldacci's have gobs of money but they are not going to be stupid with it. It could take 2 years to have the building complete. The market is already turning downward again and rates are going up. Have to wait for Obummer to get out of office! Until then.............

Danville lost any charm it may have had years and years ago. Greed ruins everything and Danville has more greed than most places twice it's size.

My family came to Danville in covered wagons. I have a relative in the Danville Museum. The iconic oak tree, the symbol of Danville itself, used to be in the yard of my great aunt until bankers manipulated them into selling their land for a pittance. It makes me sick to read comments of the kind from resident harpies Julia P. and Ann precisely because it reflects the snobbish, self-centered mindset that drove me from from the town. Danville should be a place for all, not just elitist snobs separated from reality. It is no surprise that Aunt Viola's tree is dying and all propped up... gods forbid the black hearts should lose their precious "symbol."
