Sierra Venetta, a freshman at Danville’s Monte Vista High School, earned a gold medal and the 2015 Pacific Coast Sectional Intermediate Ladies Champion title after a strong performance in the recent U.S. Figure Skating sectional championships in Washington.

Venetta took first place in the short- and free-skate programs, and her combined score ranks her as the top U.S. intermediate lady and advances her to the 2015 USFSA National Championships set for Jan. 16-25 in Greensboro, N.C.

The sectional event — which brought together top skaters from the Pacific Northwest, Central and Southwest regional championships — was held Nov. 18-22 in Spokane, Wash.

Venetta is a member of the Figure Skating Club of San Francisco, trains at the Dublin Iceland and is coached by Grete Castaneda.
