Visitors to Pleasanton’s Harrington Art Gallery for the next month will have the chance to view art created “Inside and Out” by a group of seven artists from the greater Bay Area, including Danville, who begin their works out of doors and complete them inside their studios. They paint together, they say, for inspiration and challenge.
“We paint together regularly out on location, which allows us to share adventure and friendship,” explained member Loralee Chapleau, who is from Danville. “This camaraderie, along with our different approaches to painting, allows us to encourage, inspire and energize each other.”
The show opened earlier this month and will run through Sept. 12.
Gallery director Julie Finegan said the exhibit was initially proposed by the group in 2014.
“They call themselves the ‘Joules,’ a nod to the energy they create when working together,” Finegan said.
“We paint in bold, unique styles, ranging from impressionism toward abstract expressionism,” said Chapleau.
The other artists are Kathy Birdsong from Healdsburg; Atilla Cziglenyi, Hayward; Michaela Marsden, Berkeley; Joann McMahon, Berkeley; Kerry Sorenson, San Jose; and Jerrold Turner, Benicia.
The Harrington Gallery is located inside the Firehouse Arts Center, 4444 Railroad Ave. in Pleasanton. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and one hour before performances and during intermissions. Admission for this exhibit is free.
