Not a great fan of police car chases but, in this case, erratic driving, (as witnessed by the curb-hopping), suggest that it was the right thing to do. Good job DPD on being observant.

I'm not going to celebrate a young life being cut short, even if karma seems to have had its say, the best you can really say is that no outsiders were hurt.

Police pursuits are a judgment call, as witnessed by an officer, and guided by each jurisdictions rules. The aforementioned pursuit, had it been during daylight hours with heavier levels of traffic present, could have had a much deadlier outcome for the presence of pedestrians and more vehicles on both Highway 680 and Crow Canyon Road. Since the incident occurred in the early morning hours, the officer(s) made the proper decision to initiate a pursuit, as traffic levels were light.

I agree with your general opposition to car chases. They often end up causing more mayhem than the escapee would have caused on their own.

In this case, when somebody at KGO talked with a police spokeperson (possibly Danville's chief - not sure), the chief gave permission for this pursuit only because it was late at night with few cars on the road. They said specifically that the chase probably would have been called off during normal daytime hours.

It is too bad for the young girl and her family. I don't care what her past was, it is sad when anyone dies; even more so when a 19yr old dies. There was also the possibility that she may have turned her life around for the better later in life but that possibility is gone now also.

Everyone wants to find point of fault. Yes she was a screw up. But lets look at the reality. The young lady was white. The judicial system shouldn't have dealt with her partiality,like they do so many other young people because of their race. May be the young lady would be alive to day. So many people of color are guilty of the same things,and are dealt with harshly and with prejudice. No doubt she felt some favoritism, to be caught that many times for felonies and carrying fire arms and wasnt dealt with properly by law. Because she was white. The true criminal is the judicial system. To allow white people to be dealt a soft hand because they are white is criminal and hazardous to society and shame on the judicial system. And it's the system that perpetuate crime because of their prejudice.

Because of partiality and impartiality displayed and awarded to whites. A officer that was off duty in our United States earlier this week. Felt because he was a officer of the law and white a black woman that cut him off in a traffic incident, was nothing.This poor woman deserved to be shot and have her property damaged by him from a weapon he had.The assault came about Because he felt she was being insulent. My people it's not enough that he was arrested , it should be that favoritism and the good old boy white club should learn finally.That at there attempt at genocid, its numbers are just devastating to them as well as the society they try to separate themselves from. But what you should have notice,is that the judicial system failed Ms Meecham.By allowing this young lady to continue to take and destroy property,which inturn caused her life. Chris, the judicial system didn't fail your friend, your friend failed society. Normal people don't need to be told they shouldn't prey on society. Drugs, guns, theft, running from the police? Most people don't need to be told not to do these things and they certainly aren't the victim which is what you're implying.

Sure we can all assume the worst in this young girls life but you could change that thought and think, wow this young lady with the proper help and guidance possibly could have turned her life around if given the chance and made a positive impact on the community. I am sure this young lady had some wonderful qualities and if given the chance could have been brought out and put to use if only someone, somewhere and somehow the proper person, place or thing could have been available.
