Celebration of life set for former Danville mayor Dick Waldo

Former Danville Town Councilman Richard "Dick" Waldo, who served two terms on the council around the turn of the 21st century, including two years as the town's mayor, died Dec. 14 after a brief illness. He was 91.

Dick was the best guy you could ever imagine. We loved to hear his laughter. He found joy in everything. He will be sorely missed by all.

I was sorry to read about Mr.Waldo's passing. Years ago while he was in office serving as the Mayor my son was working on a report for his 4th grade class. He contacted the Mayor and asked if he could interview him as part of his report compilation efforts. Mayor Waldo responded "sure" immediately and he drove to our home the next day and sat with my son for 30 minutes answering his questions. What a wonderful civic servant, and I never forgot his kind act many years ago. Robert, your touching memorial was wonderful and I wanted to share this anecdote with you about your Dad.
