A 15-year-old from San Ramon was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly trying to evade police in a stolen car before crashing and being caught while running away.
The teenager, whose name was not released, was booked into county juvenile hall on suspicion of vehicle theft, attempting to evade police, possessing stolen property and resisting arrest, according to San Ramon police Lt. Denton Carlson.
The situation began just after midnight Wednesday when a San Ramon police officer driving on San Ramon Valley Boulevard near Bollinger Canyon Road was alerted to a possible stolen vehicle by the automated license plate reader mounted inside his patrol car, according to Carlson. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Hercules on Saturday.
The officer tried to pull over the vehicle, but the driver fled and a pursuit began northbound on San Ramon Valley Boulevard, then westbound on Crow Canyon Road and onto some side streets before ultimately ending on Deerwood Place, Carlson said.
“The suspect ran several red lights and blew through a few stop signs before running into a curb and blowing out the front tires of the car,” the lieutenant added. “The suspect attempted to run from our officers but was caught after a short foot pursuit.”
San Ramon police released details of the incident later Wednesday morning through its main website and social media accounts with the header, “While you were sleeping … We were keeping you safe.”
