I hope someday they think about 580/680 intersection as well...weekday or weekend, it’s always congested because of the way the intersection is built. It would have worked when there was not much traffic but certainly doesn’t work now.

Would be really nice, if they're using the funds to actually widen the road, to make these tax-payer-dollars a value to ALL users, not just a segregated monied few. Not everyone has the financial freedom to throw $30-80 a month (one way, mind you-double that if you're planning on coming home too) to have the privilege to tread in the Extortion Lane.
In CCCo where the new Extortion Lane was opened, all those $millions spent did nothing but reduce legal "freeway" lanes by 25%... from 5AM to 8PM weekdays-No additional lane space was added to accommodate this fiasco... ironically exactly the time block when 100% of the road is needed for the greatest amount of travel! So now congestion reigns regularly, weekdays from 5AM to 8PM pretty much guaranteed.
Who voted to allow these spending herds Willy-Nilly control of our tax dollars to throw away on their schemes?? If nothing else, there needs to be peer-review and community input periods on all these "plans". And before new think-tank bullocks come to light, what about the plans that have been "shelved" because 'funding cannot be found' (SR4/I680 interchange rebuild). Those should get priorities over any new "how can we squeeze out more $ from the naive public" municipal projects.

Driver G,

Amen, brother!

There should be reviews of the "ideas". There should be public feedback.
There should be methods of MEASUREMENT of SUCCESS or FAILURE.

There should be accountability, including personal accountability (people should get promoted and FIRED without pensions, based on the real outcome of their ideas and money=spending actions).

These "ideas" (that carpools and express lanes help traffic, that metering lights help traffic and are FAIR) are part of a large (liberal) AGENDA and are based on firstly bad (unfair, unequal, discriminatory, wrong) Principles and secondly on False Science (even though CalTrans uses a lot of "scientists, experts to justify their ideas).
There is no SAY BY THE PEOPLE. No vote. No true representation.

It is all shoved down our throats by supposedly all-seeing experts, who know whats best for us.
Brain-washed Planners and Follower Politicians.

Bye bye California "freeways"!

Good points.

There are other ideas too like sharing lane between north and south 680...move 1 lane from northbound and give to southbound in mornings and reverse on evenings since we know the traffic is high on southbound in the mornings and northbound in the evenings. And yes it’s easier said than done but it’s doable.

This is simply double taxation, brought to you be a huge unelected bureaucracy that does not care what you think. Maybe you should think harder next time you vote for state representatives & governor, etc., because the present one-party state government is bringing you these huge unelected bureaucracies that circumvent real democracy. You are getting exactly what your naiveté at the polls allowed to happen.

Yes, sadly all the new 680 Express Lane accomplished was taking away incentive for carpools and allow those who can afford it faster passage. Ironically, the lane is now just as congested as the others, so no one acrualky benefits, except the State of California, the County, and CalTrans.
