Swalwell reintroduces Journalist Protection Act

Original post made on Mar 22, 2019

Last week U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell and two East Coast congressmen reintroduced a bill that would make certain attacks on news outlets a federal crime. The announcement came during Sunshine Week, an annual weeklong public campaign held this year from March 10 to 16, highlighting the importance of a transparent government and free media.

What journalists? Journalism is dead the only thing happening on supposed “news” programs is biased people displaying no integrity no honesty and reporting what they heard from the other “news” station. Journalism died decades ago.

Wow - Swallowwell doing something besides screaming "orange man bad"? Shocking. Now if he could get a bill passed that makes it a felony for the national media to broadcast speculation, innuendo and opinion and call it facts, he'd actually have done something for his constituents.

How does one qualify to be called a journalist? Matt Drudge is as much of a journalist as Paul Krugman. Anyone can claim to be a journalist in this day and age of the internet. One thing is for sure, a journalism degree is not necessary to be a journalist.

It is disheartening to read the comments of people who live in my community. What is with all of the bitter negativity? A local rep is doing something that is good-too many journalists are being killed despite anyone's political views. It is a bummer so many bitter, unhappy people live in such a great place.

He is just trying to be relevant.

Swillwell again proves he is irrelevant and ignores many of his electorate. We have enough laws already.

What about the woman in San Jose a few days ago, that was murdered in her own home by an illegal alien gang member that had been arrested 6 times but released each time because of "sanctuary" laws. What about the four recent murders in NV by a different illegal alien gang member that had been deported numerous times. I bet the family members of those six innocent American citizen murder victims definitely think the porous Southern border is indeed an emergency that needs to be addressed with an improved border wall and other necessary upgrades.

Swillwell needs to quit bashing President Trump, and vote for improved border security, including the wall.

Journalism is definitely dead. News outlets are more interested in selling the news and their opinions than reporting news in a neutral fashion. The “journalists” often name the news programs after themselves which is a good indication that it is more about them and their skin than factual news. Most stations are like echo chambers repeating the same spin over and over hoping it is true or will come true. The newspapers are no better and many are in financial difficulty as people have figured them out.

Watch this interview of Swalwell. This clown, a former prosecutor I might add, was outed by PBS.

Thanks for posting the link. It all makes sense now. He plans to run for president. One way to try and differentiate himself from fellow Democrats and others is to gain the favor of the press and media by proposing the "Journalists Protection Act". After the past two years, the folks at CNN,MSNBC, etc. will favor this bill and even if it doesn't pass, it will signal to them that he is press friendly. It will be interesting to see if they take notice and if it makes a difference. So far, all the attention has gone to others with their crazy ideas on taxation, energy, socialism, etc.

bb, click the link I posted. No negativity on my part, but I point out the liars when I see them. Swalwell is nothing more than a useless mouthpiece. I still can’t believe this guy was a prosecutor. He was making accusations about the president without any evidence whatsoever. Does that sound like something a prosecutor would do?

It is bad enough when so called journalist use their position for their own political agendas, but when the actual District Attorney's office turns into a political arm it is actually dangerous and threat to public safety. It is an outrage what the District Attorneys office in Chicago did in the Jussie Smollett case, dropping the slam dunk charges because his attorney previously was Michelle Obama's Chief of Staff and is friendly with the DA. Even the liberal mayor Rahm Emanuel is upset, calling it a "whitewash of justice" as is the African American Police Chief whose department did fantastic work in obtaining evidence against Smollett and his false claims.

The Chicago Police Union has now asked the Department of Justice to investigate this politically motived DA, noting that since she took office "she has transformed the prosecutor's office to a political arm of the anti-police movement".

If this was a white Republican who made up false claims of being attacked by a group of liberals she would have thrown the book at him, but because of his politics and his attorneys close ties to the Obama family suddenly the charges are dropped.

It is sad and disturbing at how the media and now even some District Attorneys offices have turned into political arms of the Democratic party.

Swalwell is a clown! He is an embarrassment to California voters and should not be re-elected, but this is California and the liberal left loves his “hate Trump” platform. Other than that, he offers nothing to the California citizens that want California great again!!!

If you do not like Swalwell then VOTE. If you do not like California then LEAVE. But can’t we have any civilized conversations without attacking each other.

You are right Gail! Unfortunately CA has become a one party dictatorship run by the far left. Unfortunately, people like Barb, who support this one party dictatorship not only step on us, but also want us to leave CA! The political winds are a changing, & the party of the "green new deal" will eventually go down in defeat.

What is wrong with all of you? Attacking each other because of personal beliefs! It makes me very sad to see this. We are all human beings, living in a free country. We have a right to our opinions without being shamed by others.

Peace unto you all!

Actually, Mr. Hamilton, these postings are pretty civil. We, or at least I, have no issue with opposing views here. What I have issue with is Swalwell. Of all people, he should know better than to accuse someone of being a foreign agent of a U.S. adversary without proof. All Americans should be concerned about this type of behavior coming from our representatives.

Makes you wonder if the folks not happy with Swalwell actually voted for him...ever? And/or have they viewed the MARGINS of all of wins.

In America minority can make a lot of noise......

If anyone complains that this is a rerun, Cf. Mr. 'American's' many consecutive (and trivial) squawks about another candidate's credentials. And speaking of reruns, Rep. Swalwell's margins of victory are consistently in the 70s-20s% range. Enjoy!

"Currently stalking the rare and long-lived western red-crested elephant bird.

It's a close relative of the dodo, and nearly as extinct in these parts. It's known to flock into small colonies, especially near golf courses and town squares, and complains loud and discordantly whenever disturbed. Sets up quite a cacophony when they all get going! Brilliant white plumage sometimes tinted blue in the female, it tries to drive away more colorful birds and take their eggs. Spends most of its time feathering its nest, but seems to live in constant fear from Foxes (and their friends).

Have you seen any around here?"

Hey Audubon, I’ve heard a lot of liars lately - including the one you so much admire. Sounds to me like you agree it’s okay to condem people without facts?

Apparently you have me mistaken for an admirer of the Prevaricator in Chief, the Fabulous Fabricator, the Deity of Dissimulation, that Deluding Loser, Colonel Bonespurs himself: your Prez. You know, the guy who wants people to believe that windmills cause cancer.

Nope, no admiration here.

Just a skosh of pity, maybe.

Yeah, I guess it's better to accuse people of crimes without evidence.

The only difference between you and Kim Foxx is that Foxx actually had evidence to get a conviction. You, on the other hand, can't provide anything that amounts to evidence - material or otherwise.

You and AOC would make a fine pair.

I recognize that call - it's the plaintive cry of the desperate loon, a threatened species to be sure. The AOC scares the very bejesus out of old birds who can only fly with their right wings. They simply can't compete. Hopeless attempts to attack her have plunged like a 737. She's learning to fly with grace and agility, leaving her pursuers with egg on their faces.

And she'll only get stronger as she deftly repels each new assault - she's got a high-flying future - be afraid, elephant birds. As they say, 'the future is female.'
