SRVUSD issues second stranger-danger alert for Dougherty Valley High School

For the second time in less than a week, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District has issued a stranger-danger alert due to a suspicious man harassing a female student at Dougherty Valley High School.

I agree with everything in the Stranger Safety Practices of this article EXCEPT for the part about running home if a stranger is following you. The last thing you want is some creep knowing where you live. Instead you should recommend that students run to a crowded area (store, gas station, etc.) and immediately let an adult know what's happening.

Many years ago I set up a block parent program in the town in which we lived. A local church took over and expanded the program. It is important that our children have a safe haven if frightened or approached by a stranger. An open cell phone available for use or photos of the stranger and/or the car would be useful.
