Danville extends nightly curfew; sheriff holds off on mandatory countywide order

Original post made on Jun 2, 2020

The town of Danville is continuing its nighttime curfew order for another three days in light of civil unrest in the East Bay, which included protesters halting traffic on Interstate 680 in Walnut Creek late Monday afternoon.

I think our local towns are doing the right thing in taking reasonable precautions. I also think that Walnut Creek police did the right thing in fairly quickly forcing the protesters off of the section of I-680 that they had tried to shut down.

Personally, I think that even non-violent shutting down of freeways and major arterial roads is very counter-productive to the aims of the protesters.

1. It is unsafe, in part because some modest percentage of drivers will get scared and nervous about being "trapped", and may drive unsafely to get through the protestors.

2. I don't think it changes anyone's mind about the issue of the protest - if anything it creates negative feelings toward the protestors

3. My other concern is that the peaceful protests draw a lot of police resources, which in some cases provides a degree of "cover" for other people to commit acts of looting, vandalism, and violence. I accept/know that this is not the intent of the vast majority of protestors. But even if totally inadvertant, the presence of the protest makes the other illegal activity more likely.....

It is also true that the charging of the cop who killed George Floyd has already taken place, and I have no doubt that charges against the other police officers who were present will also be forthcoming. Sometimes the wheels of justice grind a bit slowly. But I am convinced that justice will take place.

At what point does logic and critical thinking analysis over take emotion and political correctness when the good people of California are going to wake up and ask their elected officials:

(1) Our small businesses, restaurants, bars, nail salons, and churches still can not open, allegedly due to the fear of spreading the virus, but yet there is no enforcement of shelter in place orders if it pertains to protests that support certain political views.

(2) Politicians early in the shelter in place orders ordered law enforcement to go into churches and their parking lots and actually give criminal citations for attending church during the shelter in place order, but yet the same politicians are encouraging giant groups of people to gather in the streets to protest, despite the violation of shelter in place orders.

(3) A long time Sacramento Kings radio announcer was fired for saying he supports all lives, that all lives, including black lives, matter. Saying all lives matter is now equivalent to saying the N word, in today's political correctness world.

(4) The police officer in Minnesota was immediately fired and arrested and will be held accountable for his actions. There is no cover up, and the justice system will hold the officer accountable for his actions. Who will hold those responsible for the criminal looting, violence, riots, responsible for their actions? Is there amnesty now in CA for those who violate criminal statutes if you belong to a certain group or have certain political views?

(5) Are any politicians concerned about encouraging giant crowds to gather, in spreading the virus to police officers who are just trying to do their jobs and serve and protect? Protesters are yelling, spitting, and in close proximity to police officers, who now may be infected with the virus, and bring it home to their families. Have you heard one politician mention this?

God help us all.

Enough Already with the curfews, stay at home orders, and other violations to our rights. COVID 19 is the biggest scam ever perpetrated on society. The racial bullshit is the other. All used by our politicians, and moreover unelected Health Department officials entrusted by our pathetically challenged governor. We're going to rise up and revolt. I mean insurrection.
