This is EXACTLY why we need to have the death penalty as a legal option, as it is a bargaining chip to make scum like this plead guilty and get life in prison, instead of the death penalty. If we did not have the death penalty as an option, this guy would have no incentive to plead guilty to life in prison, and thus all the poor victims and their loved ones would be forced to endure the nightmare of re-living these crimes during the trial. By having the death penalty as a bargaining chip, we force losers like this to plead guilty, avoid the death penalty, and protect the victims from having to endure the trial. Hence, even if you are against the death penalty, perhaps due to a religious view, we need to keep it on the books as a bargaining chip, to protect the victims from suffering through a long and stressful trial.
