My name is Sameera Rajwade and at 21 years old I am running to be your San Ramon city councilperson.
Not only am I young for someone running for an elected government position, I am also gender queer and brown living in Trump’s America. My existence is meant to be suppressed in a society that is racially divided and dictated by the patriarchy and gender binary norms. However, these boundaries sparked a passion in me to break them. I believe in the phrase “rules are meant to be broken” especially when the rules are made by a system that is outdated with the times. There is not just one answer to how our system got like this, but what I can provide is alternative solutions. If I’m being honest, we don’t have much time.
My opposition is decades older than I am, with professional academic resumes that outshine mine. As a college dropout, journalist/artist my eccentric identity and politics threatens their agenda. And I hope you can see why this is exactly my goal. I am challenging the very system that dares to dictate us, will you join me?
