It's a breakdown in social norms. It's happening all across the country and becoming more violent.
Who's to blame: Social media? Parents? Civics not being emphasized in schools?
The mere fact that most people would rather stand there and record a fight instead of helping the victim is appalling.
Unfortunately, that's the state of affairs in this country. Sad as it is, if we as people don't stop this violence from happening, it will become the norm.
We are a nation of laws, and until we get serious and strictly enforce our laws, this kind of nonsense will continue. And quite frankly, it all starts with the parents.

Concurring with Malcolm Hex...his well written response covers all of the bases.

Malcom Hex is spot on. We need to instill better values among our children and this endeavor will require the efforts of parents, teachers, and possibly the clergy to promote and advance.
Good to see Malcom Hex and Jeff Husted on the same page...for once.

Strange that the PD position is not to get involved in these matters...kind of like Uvalde, TX.

The police departments should add or have juvenile-specific officers to handle these types of troubling incidents.
Rather than defund, make better use of the manpower.

A 14-year-old girl from New Jersey ended her life after a disturbing video of girls viciously beating her up in the high school's hallway circulated online. Now, her distraught father is promising to remember her legacy by bringing awareness of a broken school system he says overlooked extensive school bullying (Fox News).
This is exactly what the parents of that poor child should do:
1. Sue the parents of the bullies that tormented that child.
2. Sue the parents of the kids who took the videos of the beating and then circulated them online.
3. Sue the school district for not providing the protection that children deserve.
4. Sue the state to provide strict laws and severe punishment for bullies.
We as a nation are witnessing our values, common sense, and decency eroding before our very eyes. Who’s going to speak out for children that are bullied?
This has got to stop. It’s just a matter of time before people start taking the law into their own hands. And once that starts, any semblance of an orderly society is gone.
By the way Jeff, thank you.
