San Ramon commission to again discuss apartments at Golden Skate site

Parents ~ We new to show up at this meeting to fight this tonight! Golden skate is a fixture in our community and the only rollerskating rink around for our kids! We do NOT need more traffic, more impacted schools or more housing in our already too crowded community. We need to get the message across to our elected officials to STOP BUILDING and let us remain the small close knit community we love. We do not want to become Dublin or Wallnut Creek - Leave the Golden Skate as is for our kids!

Folks these meetings are all a charade for the voters. This project will be approved. It's a done deal. It was decided along time ago. The San Ramon politicians are in the pocket of the developers. Once they stuff their pockets while ruining our community they will take their ill gotten gains and get the hell out out of California.

Couldn't agree more with Paul. The city, the school district, utility providers, they all hold meetings making you feel your input will be considered. Reality is they are just going through the motion. It's a done deal.

Paul and Stella are right on. Until the voters in this area realized that it's not just a slogan - "drain the swamp", this crap will never end. Seen it for the 25 years we've been in Danville. They have an agenda, and majority of voters that continue to vote them in, will never learn. Enough said....

Really?? An apartment building right next to auto repair shops and construction yards? What a neighborhood! What about schools for all these new kids? Nice to have a pool and amenities, but NOT at the expense of reducing the parking spaces. Reduce the number of units, shortening each "tower" by one floor for starters. Don't pack people in!! Plus, we're losing Golden Skate, which has been outstanding fun for kids for generations.

Neither the developers nor the city planners nor the politicians who are in the pockets of the developers ever experience the impact of over-building that they complete. It is outrageous that they worry more about pools and totally ignore their responsibility to local transporation and schools!!! Thanks San Ramon for approving all those ridiculous apartments that will make transit on San Ramon VAlley Road at any time of day unbearable. It means I won't be shopping in San Ramon at all any more--simply because I can't get to it. Traffic on SRV between 3-5 pm during the week is already horrible. Add all those cars and it will be a parking lot. Hey, guess THAT's where they'll put all the extra cars from their apartments!! Why don't the developers actually live in the properties they develop sometime? Oh yeah...that's because they're busy building multi-million dollar gated estates for themselves while gating off public lands!

More building! What a surprise! I'd like the Planning Commission and the City Council to provide a total how much additional housing/apartments will be going up north of Crow Canyon Rd and west of San Ramon Valley Blvd. We have the Outpost that will become apartments. We have Golden Skate that will become apartments. We have Morgan Masonry that will become apartments. We have the block behind Morgan Masonry become a hotel. Then, we have Faria Preserve that will have another mountain filled with condos, homes and apartments. How many units will be low incoming housing? What is the total additional people they expect in this area? What is the total additional housing units? How many additional cars will flow through Crow Canyon Rd and San Ramon Valley Blvd once this is all built out? How many additional children are expected in the schools with all this housing?

The mayor and city council will say that it was all approved in the General Plan YEARS ago. I'm tired of hearing that excuse. We need to figure out how to revise the General Plan - even if it has to go to the voters again.

Mayor Clarkson will be putting alot of money in his pocket from real estate transactions once this is all built out.

Who's pockets are being stuffed? City Council, Planning Commission?

Call the Contra Costa DAs office of Government Corruption now. Don't let them get away with this! If they won't help you then call the FBI they prosecute corruption too!

The buildings don't look that bad but there are some real issues:
1) The road access is very limited, creating issues for fire trucks and commercial traffic. Can fire or emergency vehicles easily enter? Can residents easily leave in case of an emergency? Shouldn't there be an exit on both sides of the complex?
2) This is an industrial area. Is there safely for kids who ride bikes, families taking walks, etc.? Can the residents, some of whom will be Sec. 8, walk to supermarkets (all the way down to Safeway) safely in all weather?
3) The area is surrounded by auto shops. Is there an environmental or safety issue with apartments being so close to these shops?

This seems like a good idea since housing is needed, but a bad idea when the above questions are considered.

Posters, your vitriol is misplaced.

The real villain here is the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) which is made up of appointed, not elected, officials that make regional planning directives based on their concept of what is best for San Ramon and all the other Bay Area communities. It states that membership is voluntary, but that isn't true. ABAG is an expensive bureaucracy that affects every general plan of every member city and frankly, has draconian demands on where housing should be located.

To say that the city council is in the pockets of the developers just tells me you don't know any of them personally. that couldn't be further from the truth.

To say the city isn't planning for schools is also misdirected. That is the purview of the school board, and they are putting themselves behind the eight ball by not requiring schools and land for them along with the development plan. Faria property is a good example of that deficiency.
