Town Square

Guest Opinion: Danville residents should voice concerns about cell wireless equipment safety to legislators

Original post made on May 6, 2019

"This is a sure way to dismantle the FCC's mandates and buys us time to figure out what is right for our towns, time for more science to develop, safer alternatives etc.," writes Nicholas Vasallo in this week's Guest Opinion.

Thank you so much for this! We all have to do what we can to get back local control. Then we have to do what we can to make our city leaders act in her best interests.

There aren't any health concerns from cell phone towers. The FCC has jurisdiction to keep local fear-mongering from getting in the way of the services we all consume and increasing rates. Being anti-cell facility is like being anti-vaccination, uninformed and ultimately counterproductive.

Please don't send this letter. As the poster above correctly indicated, there are no health issues associated with cell towers.

There are real safety problems with gaps in coverage such as when emergency services can't be contacted because a location is out of coverage.

How many of us are reading this article from our cell phones?

The most informed, knowledgeable people are the ones who are NOT in denial about the negative impacts of this extremely toxic technology. Throughout my research on this topic, I have found that most supporters of 5G are uniformed, misguided, and are in denial because they want their faster download speeds. So, thank you to Dr. Vasallo for writing this article and informing the public about the reality of fifth generation wireless.

What most pro-5G people fail to understand (or are unwilling to admit) is that this is a different technology than 4G. Earlier generations of wireless utilize frequencies in the megahertz range. Fifth generation wireless uses gigahertz frequencies, which are millimeter waves. These higher frequencies are shorter, more powerful waves that penetrate the skin – particularly the eyes and testes. Children are at much greater risk due to their exponentially higher absorption of this man-made microwave radiation, which is 10x greater as their brains and bodies are still developing.

The safety of 5G is only measured by thermal heating – how much it heats the skin. The levels that the FCC requires wireless transmissions to adhere to are from 1996. Significant technological advances have occurred in 21st century that the FCC is not taking into account, which are vastly different from the 20th century technologies. We know for certain that these safety standards must be revisited to protect people.

TRILLIONS of dollars have been invested into 5G – from research, infrastructure, false marketing, “campaign contributions” and more. The Chairman of the FCC, Ajit Pai, came from Verizon. Many who work for the FCC are former Verizon, AT&T and other wireless industry employees. They are the government! Industry is writing the U.S. laws about how 5G can be deployed, and it is being done without regard to independent, peer-reviewed research PROVING the negative health impacts. Local rights are being usurped by the FCC’s push to get this technology installed anywhere and everywhere possible. All the rules are being changed to support wireless, not individuals. Even the OTARD rules are being changed to allow private citizens to host a 5G tower on their home/property, without regard for their neighbors who would be at risk (and might already suffer from electromagnetic hypersensitivity).

The people commenting in favor of 5G typically work for the wireless industry or they only care about the false promises of this technology (note that it has already failed in many of the large cities where it was rolled out across the globe). These people fail to understand (or acknowledge) the biological, neurological, and other adverse effects of high power, directed beams on human DNA.

If this 5G deployment fails, the rich will no longer get richer from this horrifying human subject (without consent) experiment. This is a David vs Goliath battle. It’s about choosing profit over people. It’s about having the wrong priorities. It’s about being unwilling to be flexible and delay this massive destruction until more research has been done and people can somehow protect themselves. The advancement of technology should never be more important than the safety of our children. It is worth waiting for longitudinal studies. But, the people who are willing to be patient and wait are vastly different from those wanting faster download speeds at ANY cost.

@"Dr. Ralph Gunderson",

There is so much wrong with what you typed, I don't know where to begin.

You said "5G ... is a different technology than 4G ... utilize frequencies in the megahertz range ... Fifth generation wireless uses gigahertz frequencies ..."

That is simply wrong. 4G LTE has been using "gigahertz frequencies" for many years all over the world. Common LTE bands are 1.9 and 2.1 GHz.

You said "These higher frequencies are ... waves that penetrate the skin"

All radio waves "penetrate the skin" and penetrate walls and buildings and so on. That's what makes them useful. This is true of _all_ radio waves: TV, AM and FM radio, wireless, police, aviation, marine radio and so on. This has been true for more than a century. This is nothing new. The key is that the energy in each photon is so weak. That is what makes them harmless to living things. The energy in a 5g photon is millions of time lower than that of visible light. The photons of light from a common flashlight are much more energetic than 5g cell photons.

You wrote "without regard to independent, peer-reviewed research PROVING the negative health impacts."

No such studies exist.

You wrote:

" ... to allow private citizens to host a 5G tower on their home/property, without regard for their neighbors who would be at risk (and might already suffer from electromagnetic hypersensitivity)."

People can and do already install their own WiFi routers and cell boosters. It is both safe and legal. "electromagnetic hypersensitivity" is a psychological problem, not an actual physical condition. This has been proven in legitimate studies.

And on and on. I won't bother to address the rest of it.

Stop the fear mongering.
