The San Ramon Valley is set to mark the arrival of spring at City Center Bishop Ranch this weekend, with annual Holi festivities coming to the downtown center of San Ramon.
With the ancient Hindu “festival of colors” officially on March 8 this year, the City Center event comes on the heels of a number of other celebrations throughout the region, as well as on the heels of winter storms and during a break in ongoing spring showers.
Holi is celebrated as a marker of spring and light over darkness, with brightly colored powders, music, and dancing being some of its most recognizable characteristics.
“Not merely a colorful gathering, Holi is an ancient Hindu festival acclaiming the return of spring and the victory of light over darkness,” said a Sunset Development spokesperson in an announcement. “Celebrators greet the season with the dousing of vibrant powdered pigments while dressed in light-colored clothing in a radiant expression of community.”
In addition to live music and dancing, the City Center event will feature Indian fusion food from Curry Up Now, as well as traditional and Bollywood dance performances, henna tattoos, and face painting.
The free event is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday (March 26), with dancing and throwing colors set to kick off at 3 p.m. More information is available here.
