With the holiday season nearing its end, waste service providers in the San Ramon Valley will be providing residents with a number of opportunities to dispose of their holiday trees in a convenient and environmentally friendly manner.

Pickups will take place over the next few weeks on the same day as customers’ regular garbage service, with Republic Services collecting trees from customers in Alamo, Blackhawk, Diablo and Danville, while Alameda County Industries (ACI) will be picking up trees in San Ramon.

For customers in the town of Danville, along with the unincorporated communities of Alamo, Diablo and Blackhawk, Republic Services will collect trees on customers’ regular pickup day during the week of Jan. 6-10. Any customers who miss this collection can also put out their Christmas trees during the week of Jan. 20-24.

Residents who miss both of those weeks can call Republic Services at 685-4711 to schedule a time for pickup, or cut the tree into small pieces that fit in their green organics bin.

In order to be collected, all lights, tinsel and other decorations must be removed, trees must be cut so they are no taller than 8-feet and must be placed on the curb during the designated tree collection week.

Over in San Ramon, ACI will be picking up trees on residents’ regular pickup days during the second week of January.

Trees in San Ramon must also be completely devoid of any decorations, however they need to be no taller than 6-feet in order to be picked up. Property owners and managers of larger apartment complexes with a large number of holiday trees are encouraged to contact ACI at 380-9480 to reserve a holiday tree debris box.

Flocked trees cannot be composted and will be collected as garbage.

In San Ramon, a local Boy Scouts troop is also set to host its annual Christmas tree pickup drive on Jan. 4, during which time the scouts group will drive to residents homes to take away their trees.

A donation of $10 is appreciated for tree pickups; residents can learn more on www.sanramonscouts.org.
