An air quality advisory has been issued due to the heavy wildfire smoke choking cities in the Bay Area drifting in from the Camp Fire in Butte County, resulting in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District canceling all indoor and outdoor physical activities for Friday and Saturday.
Thus far all SRVUSD schools and district offices have remained open, but the district will limit outdoor activities for students and staff based on air quality readings, and have tentatively rescheduled both high school North Coast Section playoff games to Monday.
Originally scheduled for today the Monte Vista (7-3), San Ramon Valley (6-4) and Cal High (7-3) playoff games have been pushed through the weekend due to dangers from smoke inhalation.
The SRVHS Wolf Pack is now scheduled to host the MVHS Mustangs on Monday at 7 p.m.
The Grizzlies home game against San Leandro (6-5) has also been rescheduled to Monday at 7 p.m.
Rescheduled times are tentative and dependent on Monday’s air quality, officials said.
Football was not the only sport to have their games postponed.
MVHS Girl’s Division I Tennis team has had their game at Amador Valley High School pushed to Wednesday at 2 p.m. The winner of that match will move on to the Division I championship game on Thursday.
The wolves water polo team has also had their NCS championship game against Moraga’s Campolindo High School rescheduled. With SRVHS tentatively scheduled to host the game Monday at 3 p.m.
The status of other canceled sports games and practices has not yet been announced.
Other safety measures the district has taken include keeping students indoors as much as possible this includes lunch, recess and PE, shutting off ventilation systems to prevent smoke from infiltrating buildings, and keeping doors and windows closed as much as possible.
